POSITION FOCUS :
The Recreation Coordinator will plan, program, and supervise both athletic and recreational programs for youth and adults within the Park District. This role includes overseeing facilities, equipment, and maintaining communication with governmental agencies, organizations, and the public. Evening and weekend work is required.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the DISC Manager and the Recreation Supervisor. Supervises part-time and seasonal staff, including 2 to 8 non-exempt employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, and resolving complaints.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Plan, develop, and maintain athletic and recreational programming, including youth baseball / softball leagues, tumbling, Redbird Rookies, youth basketball, lacrosse, adult leagues, road runs, special events, pickleball and sports camps.
- Collaborate with the DISC Assistant Manager to coordinate early childhood programs, day camps, and special events.
- Oversee the Illini United Volleyball Club, ensuring quality programming and engagement.
- Assist with other aspects of the athletics department, including the Tennis Complex and Adult Sports.
- Schedule athletic fields and facilities for Park District programs and community groups.
- Assist in coaching and outreach for various sports, including lacrosse.
- Manage and run large tournaments and special events, ensuring all logistical aspects are covered.
- Assist in supervising daily operations of the DISC when assigned.
- Oversee the management of athletic facilities, ensuring safe and quality programming.
- Develop and implement training programs for sports officials.
- Manage concession stand operations at various locations, including staffing, supply ordering, and ensuring efficient service.
- Collaborate with the official's assignor to coordinate league schedules and address officiating needs.
- Evaluate existing programs and submit recommendations for improvements and fee adjustments.
- Prepare annual budget projections and monitor revenue and expenses.
- Collaborate with Decatur Public Schools to coordinate elementary school sports programs.
- Manage payroll processes and requisition purchases of equipment and supplies.
- Prepare reports, board summaries, and program guides in collaboration with marketing and communications teams.
- Attend regular meetings and professional development workshops.
