What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Service Supervisor position at Decatur Utilities?
Directs and coordinates activities of employees involved in field services to ensure prompt and timely services to customers. Must be knowledgeable in field services routine and maintenance work processes in order to plan work efficiently. Must have experience in troubleshooting electric, gas, water and wastewater problems.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as a member of the leadership team and assists in developing policies, budget projections, organizational structures, system requirements and goals.
- Directs and oversees daily work activities of field service representatives and meter readers.
- Plans for timely completion of seasonal work, e.g. field service maintenance, pilot lighting program and other assigned projects.
- Provides adequate training to ensure employees perform job duties in a safe and professional manner.
- Coordinates with other supervisors to cross train selected employees.
- Directs and coordinates topics for work group safety meetings.
- Oversees fleet maintenance and upkeep on all assigned vehicles.
- Assists Customer Service Manager to plan and implement daily and long-range work plans, develop benchmark production standards and analyze data for process improvements in work group.
- Resolves customer issues as a result of field service work, either in person or by phone.
- Recommends specifications for equipment, vehicles, tools and materials.
- Works with Billing, Dispatch, Customer Service and Information Systems to resolve billing problems, abnormal reports, etc.
- Coordinates work schedules and approves PTO requests from assigned employees.
- May work service truck to ensure work requests are completed in a timely manner.
- Assists in repair and/or make safe, all aspects of cut gas services and assesses and refers gas main leaks.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Associate’s Degree in Management and Supervision or other related field or six to eight years experience in utility related work. Supervisory experience preferred.
- AMI System experience and knowledge is preferred.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
