DESCRIPTION
Licensed Practical/ Vocational Nurse Medical/ Surgical to support the mission at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (Bethesda, MD)
Qualifications:
- Minimum Educational: Diploma of LPN or LVN, from and accredited National League of Nursing (NLN) approved program.
- Certification/Licenses Requirements: Valid, unrestricted, LPN/LVN license at least 1 state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S
- Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is Required.
- Minimum Experience: continuously employed in the practice of Licensed Practical Nurse for 1 year prior to start of work at the MTF
Job Description:
- Knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments related to prevention, and detection of illnesses in adults, is desirable.
- The contracted LPN/LVN will be knowledgeable in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients, as appropriate.
- Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in the use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
- Demonstrate professionalism in conduct to include but not limited to interactions with other team members, willingness to admit areas where improvement in skill is needed, honesty in documentation of work hours and leave requests, receive, and respond to feedback provided by other members of the team.
- Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice. The contracted LPN/LVN will demonstrate proper assessment, preparation of patients for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions.
- Perform/assist with clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established policies, and guidelines used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Supervise all paraprofessionals necessary in the care and treatment of the patient. Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers and other clinic specific equipment
