The Small Business Lender will be responsible to work with small businesses and access their credit worthiness, evaluate loan applications, and provide financial options like working capital loans, equipment loans, or business acquisition loans, while ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and maintaining strong customer relationships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Acquisition and Development
- Identify potential small business clients through networking, outreach, and marketing efforts.
- Build relationships with business owners to understand their financial needs and goals.
- Present loan products and options tailored to specific business needs.
Loan Application Analysis
- Collect and review financial information including income statements, balance sheets, tax returns, credit reports, and collateral documents for loans $500,000 and under, utilizing the Lender’s Cooperative software application for loans $100,000 and under.
- Assess creditworthiness and risk factors to determine loan eligibility and terms.
- Conduct thorough due diligence on business operations and cash flow.
Loan Underwriting
- Structure loan packages with appropriate loan terms.
- Prepare loan submissions for credit approval.
- Communicate and explain loan terms with borrowers based on risk assessment and market conditions.
Loan Servicing and Monitoring
- Communicate with borrowers regarding loan modifications or other necessary adjustments, work with borrowers on any credit issues.
- Address customer concerns and provide ongoing support.
Other
- Complete all internal Bank training as assigned and required.
- Adhere to the Bank’s privacy and data security policies including but not limited to safeguarding of sensitive information and complying with relevant regulations to protect non-public information.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- 2 years of experience in commercial lending or commercial credit, preferably with a focus on small business lending.
- Knowledge and experience in SBA lending products.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit scoring and lending principles.
- Knowledge of different industry needs, and financial challenges faced by small businesses.
- Awareness of relevant regulations and compliance requirements related to lending practices.
SKILLS
- Basic knowledge of the banking and financial services industry including federal laws and regulations.
- Willingness to gain new knowledge and technical skills.
- Intermediate typing skills to meet the production needs of the position.
- Intermediate math skills: the ability to calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio, and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, read, analyze, and interpret documents and professional journals, understand procedures, write reports, correspondence, and procedures, speak clearly to customers and employees.
