Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ocean Engineer to join our team and work on deep water offshore projects including deep sea mining, offshore renewables, and oil & gas. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, and execution of engineering solutions related to the floating offshore platforms, moorings, and risers in deep water environments. This is a leadership role, where the Senior Ocean Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, including naval architects, marine engineers, and project managers, to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the design, analysis, and development of offshore systems, including platforms, subsea systems, and floating facilities for deep water applications.
- Conduct structural and hydrodynamic analyses using advanced software tools (e.g., OrcaFlex, MOSES, ANSYS, and others) to ensure the safety, performance, and stability of offshore installations.
- Oversee the preparation of technical documentation, including engineering reports, design calculations, and specifications, in accordance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., API, ISO, DNV GL).
- Provide technical support and guidance during the construction, installation, and commissioning phases of deep water projects.
- Perform risk assessments and mitigation strategies for design and operational challenges in harsh and dynamic marine environments.
- Work closely with project management teams to define project scope, timelines, budgets, and resources.
- Market new business opportunities and assist the company’s business development team to grow the business. This includes participation in appropriate symposia and conferences, lead generation and follow-up, and proposal preparation.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on technical matters, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Interface with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with all necessary codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and innovations related to deep water offshore engineering.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) degree in Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in offshore engineering, including graduate studies, with at least 5 years in deep water projects.
- Expertise in the design and analysis of offshore structures and subsea systems.
- Proficiency in industry-standard software for structural and hydrodynamic analysis (e.g., OrcaFlex, MOSES, ANSYS, ABAQUS).
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and best practices for offshore and deep water engineering (e.g., API, DNV GL, ISO).
- Demonstrated experience in managing and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to handle complex technical challenges in dynamic environments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel offshore and to project sites as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with floating production systems and deep water mooring and riser systems.
- Well grounded in theory of marine hydrodynamics (waves, fluid-structure interactions), fluid mechanics including flow in pipes, structural dynamics.
- Familiar with scale model testing of offshore platforms.
- Familiarity with offshore mineral recovery and dredging.
- Familiarity with subsea installation techniques, including pipeline laying, ROVs, and subsea asset maintenance.
- Project management experience, including scope definition, budgeting, and scheduling.
Work Environment:
- This role may involve offshore site visits, inspections, and travel to project locations.
- Work will be a mix of office-based and field-based environments, depending on project phase.
