PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Growth Strategy and Product Development Lead for Deer Valley Resort is a leadership position, reporting to the Vice President of Marketing, responsible for helping shape the vision and driving the business growth strategy with development of innovative resort offerings, products, and experiences. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams, including operations, marketing, and guest services, to brainstorm strategies that enhance guest satisfaction, optimize resort offerings, and drive growth. This role will oversee the full lifecycle of new resort initiatives, from concept development to launch, while ensuring that all efforts align with the resort’s brand, customer expectations, and long-term profitability.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Growth Strategy Planning
- Collaborate with the senior leadership to develop and refine the resort’s 1-5 year strategic plan, ensuring sustainable growth and market leadership.
- Identify emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges within the ski, tourism, and luxury hospitality industries.
- Partner with key stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment across commercial, marketing, operations, and guest services.
- Leverage data-driven insights to refine business priorities and recommend high-impact growth initiatives.
Product Development & Innovation
- Collaborate with senior leadership on the creation and evolution of resort offerings, including new ski programs, lodging experiences, dining concepts, premium guest experiences and new lines of business.
- Assist senior leadership in developing innovative guest-centric offerings based on guest demand and market size (e.g., ski packages, wellness retreats, snow activities) that differentiate the resort from competitors.
- Set up new offerings for success by collaborating closely with operations and the operations teams.
Market Strategy & Competitive Positioning
- Ensure commercial, operational, and marketing strategies are aligned with the long-term business plan.
- Collaborate with marketing, finance and revenue management to assess feasibility, ROI, and pricing strategies for new initiatives.
- Partner with Alterra Mountain Company to leverage corporate resources, data insights, and broader brand initiatives.
- Analyze market trends, competitor offerings, and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities and emerging trends (e.g., eco-tourism, luxury experiences, family-friendly programming).
Performance Monitoring & Adaptation
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for strategic initiatives and product offerings, including visitation growth, guest satisfaction, revenue growth, and market penetration.
- Utilize guest insights, market data, and financial metrics to optimize resort experiences and refine strategies as needed.
- Present regular reports on performance, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership to support data-driven decision-making.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
- Bridge strategy, product development, and execution, ensuring that initiatives align with business objectives.
- Partner with leadership, department heads, and Alterra to translate strategy into actionable goals.
- Assist with alignment between cross-functional teams, ensuring seamless integration of strategic initiatives.
- Encourage cross-team collaboration, ensuring all departments work toward a unified vision.
- Support talent development efforts to build a strong team capable of executing high-impact initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience
- 7 years of experience in strategic planning, product development, or resort/hospitality management.
- Proven track record of developing and executing growth strategies within a competitive leisure, tourism, or ski industry.
- Strong background in market analysis, trend forecasting, and guest experience innovation.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating across departments.
