Lab Technician - Seasonal
Job Summary
The Lab Technician-Seasonal is responsible for performing routine analyses in a fast-paced agricultural testing laboratory. The Lab Technician-Seasonal will effectively conduct testing and analyses of water, soil and plant tissues. The position is required to collect data, perform calculations, and prepare accurate reports. Under the supervision of the Lab Manager, the technician will prepare reagents and chemical solutions on a continuous basis. The Lab Technician-Seasonal is also responsible of performing preventative maintenance on analytical instruments.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Effectively conduct testing and analyses of water, soil and plant tissue using established methods to ensure valid results.
Properly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prepare plant and soil samples while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Collect data, perform calculations, and prepare accurate reports in accordance with specified procedures in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate, thorough, and up-to-date files, logs, and laboratory notebooks for future reference. Prepare reagents and chemical solutions daily.
Perform calibration and preventative maintenance on lab equipment (pH meters, conductivity meters, ICP, LECO, FIA).
Consistently maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Work with other members of the team to meet our safety, quality, and production goals.
Maintain safety in all phases of job performance, including chemical handling, sample prep, operating lab instruments and all lab processes. Ensure proper PPE is worn at all times.
Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent mathematical skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn software and applications used for chemical tests and analysis.
Must be able to work in a challenging fast-paced environment while maintaining strong attention to details.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
Education and Experience:
College coursework in Chemistry, Physics, Biology or related sciences preferred.
Previous experience in a laboratory with analytical instruments (ICP-OES, ICP-MS, GC, HPLC, etc.) is a plus
