The Trial Unit provides direct representation of indigent persons charged with federal crimes in the Middle District of Alabama, on appeals to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and in post-conviction matters brought in federal court.Criteria for this position includes : Creativity, intellectual acuity, energy, and enthusiasmExcellent research, writing, computer, advocacy, and instructional skillsAbility to communicate and work well with others and on a case teamDemonstrated interest in criminal defense issuesCommitment to community and intern trainingCommitment to obtaining justice for indigent personsOvernight travel on investigative trips is required. Applicants must be a member in good standing of a State Bar by the initial hire date, have a driver’s license, and appropriate motor vehicle insurance.
