Emergency Medicine physician employment in Hawaii : Serves as a Physician (Critical Care / Neonatologist) and the Medical Treatment Facilitys (MTF) technical authority directly or indirectly involved in managing a full range of critical care cases and problems within the neonatal-perinatal sub-specialty field. MAJOR DUTIES : 1. Serves sub-specialist and consultant in Neonatal Perinatal Medicine for Pediatrics. Admits neonates to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit / Intermediate Care Unit. Performs advanced diagnostic and life-saving treatment procedures. Develops full treatment regimens requiring knowledge of new techniques, use of prolonged or complicated procedures, or advanced and delicate skills. Develops and follows treatment plans during inpatient stay. Evaluates and treats critically ill neonates, arranging admissions, transfers and medical air evacuations. Arranges consultations to other subspecialty physicians at DoD hospitals and clinics throughout the MHS. Orders lab tests and x-rays necessary to complete diagnosis and correlates results with clinical findings. Participates in providing continuous in-house coverage of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and delivery service. Serves as a consultant to other health care providers and patients family members in difficult cases. Serves as an advocate for infants and their families regarding the appropriate medical, surgical, psychological, social, and development interventions in a multi-disciplinary setting. Documents patient care through the use of MTFs established automated information systems as required to (1) treat and manage patients, (2) document patient care, and (3) communicate with health care providers and ancillary staff. 2. Provides appropriate resuscitative measures in the delivery room (e.g., preterm infants, emergency C-sections, complicated deliveries, etc.) and determines disposition to NICU or Newborn Nursery. When needed, performs well-baby exams and provides anticipatory guidance. Provide outpatient follow-up of NICU graduates and perform role of neonatal expert to any neonatal patients as necessary to include assisting in the evaluation and treatment of neonatal patients in the emergency room and other departments within the hospital. 3. Provides staff expertise in neonatal / newborn medicine. Provides continuing education to medical professionals in the area of neonatal-perinatal medicine as well as conducts Departmental QI / PI. Responsible for training medical students, physician assistant students, interns or residents assigned for training or research within the specialty field. As a staff neonatologist in a Pediatric Resident GME program, provides oversight of GME trainees and nurse practitioners to ensure quality, timely and appropriate medical care. Provides professional guidance and teaching to house staff through inpatient rounds and other direct interaction and instruction. Assists in the education, evaluation and mentorship of the aforementioned trainees. Conducts teaching conferences and lectures for nursing and medical staff on techniques and theory of well-child preventative pediatrics, neonatal, and perinatal issues. Performs other duties as assigned. Board Certified or Board Eligible Medical Doctor with or w / o US residency with current US work visa.
