MARTIAL ARTS & SELF-DEFENSE INSTRUCTOR – PART TIME
KENNEDY-KING COLLEGE
Consider joining Kennedy-King College's Continuing Education Department as a Martial Arts & Self-Defense Instructor. The ideal candidate will focus on students learning and practicing martial arts and self-defense techniques that can be used in unexpected situations. Martial Arts & Self-Defense Instructor will explain and demonstrate the techniques and then guide students as they practice these new skills until they can use them effectively.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teaching Martial Arts & Self-Defense to students ranging from beginning students to advanced students.
- Knowledge of best practices for conducting martial arts classes.
- Provide quality instruction to students
- Establish and follow a format that allows students to progress in learning
- Give physical, written, and verbal tests to students
- Participate in the presentation of rank and certifications
- Lead students in public presentations including demonstrations, recitals, and seminars
- Exercise safety awareness and practices.
- Follows and enforces department policies, rules and regulations while maintaining a friendly attitude.
- Leads group through warmups, stretches, skills focus, and sparring.
- Ensure that the class attendees are satisfied with the lessons.
- Begin and end class on time.
- Accurately record class participation and collect participants' surveys at the end of each class.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- One or more years of experience teaching self-defense, martial arts, specifically Kung Fu.
- Valid CPR card is required.
- Certified rank of Instructor or higher
- Knowledge of hand-to-hand combat and self-defense techniques
- Physically capable of teaching martial arts and self-defense
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate with diverse group of staff and students required.
- Experience with a diverse, multi-lingual student population is desired, as is a commitment to the open access mission of the community college.
- Must be able to collaborate with participants individually and in groups, using various demonstration methods.
- Must communicate professionally and have a positive attitude at all times.
