What are the responsibilities and job description for the Christian School Teacher (K-6) position at Defiance Christian Academy?
The DCA faculty are the heartbeat of the school and will carry out our mission to educate students with a Biblical worldview, disciple them to follow Jesus Christ, and prepare them to impact their community for the glory of God. We are looking for teachers who love God, love students, and love the curriculum they are teaching. Teachers must have an attitude of partnership with parents to foster in students a love for all that is good, true, and beautiful that is ultimately found in God Himself.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be responsible for all children under his/her authority.
- Perform the teaching tasks and role generally expected of teachers which include
lesson planning, teaching, and evaluating student performance.
- Teach DCA’s classically inspired curriculum with fidelity.
- Daily maintain his/her page on the school learning management system with
current homework assignments and relevant information for students and
parents.
- Communicate with parents regularly and in a timely fashion regarding student
progress by offering both recommendations and commendations.
- Maintain effective classroom management.
- Perform all assignments and duties such as supervision of the playground,
lunchroom, hallway, etc.
- Keep accurate and timely records of student performance.
- Care for the classroom.
- Maintain attractive bulletin boards and a pleasant environment conducive to
learning.
- Attend all meetings scheduled by the administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Give evidence of being born-again through the redemptive grace of Jesus Christ.
- Demonstrate a mature and godly Christian worldview and lifestyle.
- Agree with the school's Statement of Faith and Mission.
- Active membership in a Bible-believing church aligned with the DCA Statement of
Faith.
Bachelor's degree and have completed an approved teacher preparation program
through an accredited college or university.
- Qualified to obtain and maintain a teaching license from the State of Ohio.
- Qualified to obtain and maintain Association of Christian Schools International
(ACSI) certification.
- Understand pedagogical skills and objectives in a classical, Christian model and
be prepared to apply the same in his/her classroom.
- Edify and respect Defiance Christian Academy, its administration, and its faculty
and staff.
- Interact with students, parents, faculty, and administrators with strong
interpersonal competency.
- Articulate the integration of curricular education with biblical spiritual formation
and discipleship.
- Communicate with a high level of self-awareness, compassion, and composure.
Maintain a professional appearance.
- Proficient in the use of technology as a learning accelerator.
- Background in classical Christian education is preferred.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Teachers shall be employed for the time period specified in the individual's
contract.
- The teacher agrees to abide by and maintain the rules and regulations now and
hereafter adopted by the Board of Directors.
- The teacher agrees to be on duty and teach the number of days prescribed in the
annual school calendar adopted by the Board, which shall include:
- Days open for instruction.
- Days assigned for teacher orientation, in-service, and/or parent/teacher
conferences.
- Days for record-keeping, inventory, opening and closing of school, or other duty
days.
- Teachers will be given teaching assignments at the discretion of the
Administrator and/or Principal.
SALARIES AND BENEFITS
- Salaries shall be such as will be established annually by the Board of Directors.
- Non-salary benefits shall be as established by the Board of Directors.
