What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds/Athletic Field Maintenance Worker position at DeForest Area School District?
DeForest Area School District is located just ten miles northeast of Madison in Dane County. We offer outstanding facilities and a competitive salary and benefits package. A full-time position from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm is available.
The current assignment is at DeForest Area High School. This position will perform athletic fields/facilities and other grounds related tasks under the general supervision of the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor. If not certified, the training and materials will be provided to secure state pesticide applicator's license within 2 years of start date. Start and end time of this position can be flexible based upon weather and work that needs to be completed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Mow and maintain turf on all athletic fields and surrounding grounds using riding mowers, walk behind and push mowers and gas powered trimmers.
Prep sports fields.
Measure, layout and paint playing fields to meet WIAA standards for Baseball, Softball, Football, Soccer, Track & Field, Cross-Country, Tennis and Lacrosse.
Rake, sweep, blow and pick up clippings, paper, and trash from athletic fields.
Set up event equipment as needed.
Perform all tasks related to grounds maintenance and landscaping such as pruning, weeding, planting, chemical applications, mowing and watering.
Provide snow removal services using a variety of equipment, such as tractor, walk behind snow blower or sweeper, and shovel.
Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs of grounds equipment. Monitor condition of all grounds equipment.
During off season, work inside building as needed; assisting with maintenance and repairs inside buildings, assisting with event set ups
Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent; prior landscaping or grounds, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; knowledge of athletic fields and equipment. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills; strong planning and organizational skills; good skills working as a tem; and ability to obtain pesticide applicator license. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and operate a variety of lawn care equipment including, but not limited to, a tractor, front mount mower, gang mower, aerator, skid steer, seeder, as well as walk behind equipment and hand tools.
