Position Description: Degenkolb is again offering a summer internship program for future engineers! The goal of this program is to give students an understanding of how a structural engineering practice operates to complement your academic career and to create a recruitment pipeline. We are very fortunate to hire many former interns who wish to join the firm full-time upon completing their studies. We have openings for Seniors and graduate students in the following California office locations: San Francisco, Oakland, Orange County, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego; plus Seattle, WA; Grand Rapids, MI; and Detroit, MI.
Ideal Candidate: High-achieving seniors and graduate students with a passion for structural engineering, seismic analysis (non-Michigan offices) and/or steel (Michigan).
Compensation: The pay rate for this position ranges between $28 - $37 per hour. This range is a good faith estimate pursuant to pay transparency laws. Actual pay rates will be based on various factors, including company geographic differentials, education level, and candidate qualifications.

Scholarship Program:
We have a Scholarship Program for hired Interns. The program offers 3 scholarships: one for Cal Poly SLO students, one for students at other CSU campuses, and one for members of AISES, NSBE, SHPE or WISE student chapters at University of California campuses
Award: $4,000 grant awarded after registration for the Fall 2025 quarter/semester.
To apply for the scholarship, submit a targeted cover letter of two pages or less to explain:
- Individual career goals in the structural engineering profession.
- Goals for a graduate school education.
- Individual academic and leadership skills.
- Any challenges you experienced while pursuing your academic journey (for example, first generation college graduates may struggle for resources).
