Department Philosophy :
The Food Service Department strives to maintain high standards of food quality and services. Meal planning will meet all necessary guidelines according to the residents needs.
Job Duties :
The Cooks Helper prepares and serves food for the Residents and staff at DeKalb Area Retirement Center. All Food prepared must meet the requirements established by Federal, State, and local regulations governing Institutional Food Service Safety and Sanitation.
The cooks helper provides additional services to enhance the well being of residents during meal times.
The Cooks Helper serves as a team player and as a resource.
The Cooks Helper completes the job assignments expected of him or her in the time frame allowed.
Requirements :
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
Requires the ability to obtain or have a valid certification in sanitation from the State of Illinois.
Requires one year of experience in Institutional Food Service.
Requires working knowledge of nutrition, food preparation and sanitation.
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
Must possess the ability to follow instructions, both written and oral.
Requires the ability to employ patience and tact in dealing with residents, staff, and the general public.
Requires the ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with co-workers, professionals, residents, and the general public.
Must be able to deal effectively with geriatric residents and multiple handicapped individuals.
Requires personal cleanliness and the ability to follow rules and regulations for safety and sanitation in Institutional Food Service.
Must possess sight / hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met to include the use of supplies and equipment.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and be physically able to bend, turn, reach overhead, and below knees.
Will be required to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies in excess of 25 lbs. throughout the work day.
This position requires standing and walking a minimum of 90% throughout the workday.
