The Department of Exceptional Education is seeking a qualified and experienced teacher of students with intellectual disabilities to work with the Youth Work Study Program, a High School Transition Program at various work sites. This person will work with local businesses to coordinate vocational job training for students with Intellectual Disabilities. A qualified candidate must have knowledge of a variety of student circumstances that would impact performance in the workplace as well as strategies to address those circumstances. The candidate will also instruct students on employability skills such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, grooming, budgeting and self-advocacy. The candidate must be able to correlate instructional content with training and student career objectives.
The individual will also be responsible for developing Transition Service Plans (TSPs) at the high school level for the students at the job sites. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are required. Successful candidates must be able to self-direct and make decisions at the job sites.

Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Exceptional Education, facilitates and provides specialized expertise in instructional and behavioral support for students with disabilities. Identifies educational needs and provides classroom support for teachers of students with disabilities such as autism, deaf/blind, deaf/hard of hearing, emotional behavioral disorders, intellectual disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impaired, significant developmental delays, specific learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, traumatic brain injury and visual impairments. Possesses specialized expertise in instructional and behavioral supports for students with disabilities.
Essential Functions

Bachelor’s degree from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university in relevant educational field required.
Certificates, Licenses, Permits
Valid Professional Standards Commission approved certificate in appropriate educational field at level T-4 or above required. Valid Professional Standards Commission approved subject-specific endorsements required.

- Instruct students based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); assesses and monitors student progress
- Develops lesson plans; identifies instructional materials; assesses equipment needs to augment instruction; maintains student data; utilizes a variety of instructional strategies to improve student achievement in a general curriculum; and promotes positive student behavior
- Schedules and prepares relevant paperwork; and conducts IEP meetings
- Consults and collaborates with parents, teachers, administrators, and other professionals regarding students’ educational programming
- Participates in departmental meetings and professional learning activities
- Instruct students based on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs); assesses and monitors student progress
- Performs other duties as assigned.
