JOB TITLE: Percussion Instructor
REPORTS TO: Principal
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Percussion Instructor is responsible for coordinating all activities involved with the percussion program including planning, recruiting, instructing, budgeting, developing a performing group for public appearances and competitive events in keeping with District philosophies, policies, procedures and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED from an Accredited Institution
- Educational Aide Certification
Preferred:
- Five years of related experience
- Valid Texas teaching certificate

- Experience with all areas listed in the job description
- Ability to inspire students, building enthusiasm and love of the subject
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Organizes the classroom instruction for the percussion program
- Coordinates with the Head Band Director and the Director of Performing and Visual Arts to meet District objectives for high school and middle school percussion education
- Responsible for the planning and instruction of the high school marching and concert band percussion in cooperation with the high school head band director.
- Responsible for the planning and instruction of middle school percussion classes in cooperation with the middle school head band director.
- Work in conjunction with high school band staff to develop marching show concepts and visual design.
- Administers the details of the percussion program
- Coordinates any supplementary staff or clinicians for the entire season.
- Assists in the evaluation and grading of individual students
- Responsible for all percussion inventory including maintenance, repair, and recommendations for replacement as needed
- Help supervise percussion students, including travel, during games and competitions
- Work with high school and middle school directors and assist in the transportation of equipment to and from all rehearsals, games, concerts and contests.
- Participates in all band related events such as rehearsals, games, contests, concerts, and auditions (including Region Band, Orchestra, etc.)
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent district and occasional statewide travel; prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor and indoor work; exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
