The Avilla molding engineer is also responsible for specifying, developing, and maintaining tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures used in the manufacturing and production process. This role ensures that tooling solutions are efficient, cost-effective, and meet the quality standards of the organization.
The molding engineer will be the main technical troubleshooting and training resource for hourly mold process technicians and will collaborate closely with design, production, and maintenance teams to optimize manufacturing processes and support product development.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Dekko Molding
- Responsible for driving continuous cost reductions through reducing cycle times, scrap reduction, process developments, etc
- Tool Design and Development:
- Manage the design and builds of developed tools, molds, jigs, fixtures, and dies using CAD software.
- Analyze product designs to determine tooling requirements and recommend improvements.
- Create detailed technical drawings and specifications for tooling components.
- Tool Maintenance and Optimization:
- Oversee the repair, maintenance, and modification of existing tools and fixtures.
- Monitor tooling performance and implement upgrades to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for tooling-related issues
- Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure tools meet production needs.
- Provide technical guidance and training to production teams regarding proper tool use.
- Project Management:
- Manage tooling, manufacturing, and continuous improvement projects from concept to implementation, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
- Source and collaborate with vendors for tooling materials, fabrication, and repairs.
- Assist the customer with product design with an emphasis on manufacturability.
- Assist with tool specifications with regards to best practices for injection molding, working directly with tooling engineer.
- Assist with set-up and debugging of all new molding equipment and tooling.
- Document all new process parameters for new mold tools
- Specify and analyze material alternatives.
- Interpret customers GD&T on their drawings for evaluation of parts at start-up and in production.
- Assist in determining equipment specifications and requirements
- Interface with customers and suppliers as necessary
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of the injection molding process, including materials, tools, mold function, and equipment necessary to mold products
- The ability to perform and track project related functions
- The ability to interface proactively with customers, suppliers and co-workers
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA) is a plus
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and machining techniques.
- Experience with CNC programming and machining is a plus.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification would be a plus
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Min of 5 years of experience with injection molding, tooling design and development, mold equipment and tooling maintenance, and demonstrated hands on experience is required.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry that includes robotic programming, plc programming is a plus.
- Familiarity with simulation tools for mold flow and stress analysis is a plus.
