Job Description Summary
The Academic Success Coach for TRIO EOC is a key resource in supporting low-income and first-generation college students in achieving academic, career, and personal success. This role involves providing personalized guidance, connecting students to resources, and fostering skills necessary for success in higher education and beyond. The Academic Coach will also facilitate workshops, ensure compliance with reporting requirements, and actively collaborate with faculty, staff, and community partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Student Support:
- Provide proactive daily outreach and individualized support to students based on their specific educational needs.
- Assist students with navigating secondary and post-secondary college admissions, financial aid programs, and academic requirements.
- Resource Connection:
- Serve as a Del Mar College and Community resource expert, connecting students to tutoring, counseling, academic advising, mentorship opportunities, career development events, disability services, the professional closet, food pantry, and other community resources.
- Support students in accessing and understanding financial aid programs and other support services.
- Workshops and Events:
- Develop and conduct workshops for students, Del Mar College Staff, and community stake holders on topics related to academic success, financial aid, and career development.
- Data Collection and Reporting:
- Record and maintain data on student interactions and program effectiveness.
- Prepare and provide data for annual reports and other required documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
One (1) year of related experience providing student services in higher education.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Career development issues for low-income and first-generation college students.
- Secondary and Post-Secondary-College admission requirements, academic programs, and financial aid processes.
- Federal and state laws, regulations, policies, and best practices regarding student rights, privacy, and data collection/reporting requirements.
- Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant technologies.
Skills and Abilities:
- Manage multiple tasks, prioritize projects, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Adapt to constant changes and develop new initiatives as needed.
- Exercise sound judgment, resiliency under pressure, and maintain strong ethical and professional standards.
- Work effectively with underserved populations.
- Communicate effectively both in writing and interpersonal interactions.
- Engage in conflict resolution and problem-solving with tact and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in related field.
Experience with grant and federal TRIO programs.
Skilled in use of database related software such as Blumen/Student AccessEtrieve, Datatel, Colleague, and Civitas.
Knowledge of FERPA laws.
