Job Overview
- A position within the Agriculture, Arts and Education Department, the Student Showcase Assistant
Coordinator: - Oversees student art and technical project competitions, educational presentations, community
engagement, displays, and activities related to the San Diego County Fair’s Student Showcase
Exhibit. - Develops and stewards teacher, school and educational organization relationships to promote the
exhibit’s benefits and opportunities. - Pursues the mission of the Agriculture, Arts and Education Department: To connect our audience to
agriculture and arts by creating inspiring and innovative exhibits, enriching educational experiences
and competitions that encourage community connection.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Assisting the Coordinator with the planning and implementation of the competition and/or exhibit
goals. - Performing manual labor to set-up, install and teardown exhibits.
- Cleaning and maintaining exhibits, which may include using power tools, ladders and other
equipment. - Interacting with exhibitors and guests to provide accurate information and assistance to ensure an
enjoyable experience.
- Keeping abreast of information to answer questions and concerns with timely and knowledgably
responses in person or on the phone.
- Practicing good physical work methods, utilizing good work habits, and meeting established
production standards.
- Wearing proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves, goggles) and always maintaining a safe
work environment. - Organizing demonstrations and/or presentations.
- Organizing judging and clerks.
- Directing staff in day-to-day activities and ensuring they take required breaks.
- Addressing or presenting to groups of people.
- Working on the Fairgrounds and traveling to off-site locations. Attending regular Coordinator
meetings.
- Adhering to the SOPs and Best Practices of the Fair and the Agriculture and Education Office.
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service and ability to work cooperatively with team members and others.
- Follows/provides oral and written instructions.
Working Conditions
- Potential exposure to heat/cold, dust, dirt, loud noises, and objectionable odors.
- Walking and standing for long periods of time.
- Moving or lifting moderately heavy objects.
- Working in or adjacent to crowds of people.
- Using tools, power tools, carts, dollies and equipment.
- Using computers (including Microsoft software), copiers and office equipment in an office setting.
- Work schedule will include nights, weekends, and holidays.
