What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ripening Specialist position at Del Monte Fresh Produce Company NA Inc?
Purpose of Position:
This position will be responsible for the processing, ripening and inventory control of Del Monte product at customer (vendor) warehouse ripening operations to meet customer requirements and expectations.
Accountabilities:
- Work on site (at customer facilities), as a member of the ripening service team to ripen Del Monte Product (including bananas) to fulfill customer needs.
- Perform receiving functions (physical and in electronic systems) to receive Del Monte product and manage inventory as outlined in SOP procedures.
- Perform quality inspections of Del Monte product at receiving, document inspections, and handle rejections as needed in a timely fashion as outlined in SOP procedures.
- Perform ripening functions daily, to include, but not limited to, twice daily ripening room checks, physical handling of product cases from and to pallets and visual inspection of product to determine ripening progression.
- Make accurate and consistent ripening decisions that lead to meeting our customer requirements.
- Effectively communicate with DM sales, QA and customer buying staffs daily to perform product sales functions as outlined in SOP procedures.
- Communicate with and maintain relationships with third party companies (i.e. Warehouse management, labor staffing) to ensure that ripening program goals are met.
- Maintain and complete all documentation related to product inventory, projections, inbound and outbound quality reports to maintain program performance and expectations.
- Assist in the creation of accurate weekly requests for fruit allocation. Work as a team with Del Monte stakeholders to ensure proper allocation is secured for the ripening location.
- Monitor and respond to transportation issues that may impact the ripening operations.
- Effectively communicate with other Managers, Supervisors and other location leadership and teams on issues and changes.
Minimum Skills Required:
- 4-year degree in a related field, from an accredited institution, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent communication skills (i.e. oral and written).
- Strong understanding of mathematics and basic science concepts in chemistry, biology, and physics.
- Organized and able to multitask
- Ability to work as a team player
- Innovation: ability to use creativity and judgment to resolve problems
