Role:

This position is responsible for helping to ensure the Credit Union is in compliance with all applicable consumer protection laws, including state and federal laws and regulations, and NCUA Rules and Regulations. The Compliance Specialist is responsible for executing day-to-day compliance activities, including tracking regulatory updates, conducting reviews, and maintaining compliance documentation. This position collaborates with internal departments to support implementation of compliance initiatives and contributes to fostering a culture of compliance throughout the Credit Union. 


Salary:

The salary range for this position is $26.93 to $33.66 New hires typically brought into the organization at a rate between the range minimum and the range maximum, depending on the qualifications, internal equity and the budgeted amount for the role. 


Work location: 

Midtown Branch in Santa Fe, NM

Requirements

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Support the organization by actively promoting compliance awareness across all departments. Assist in embedding compliance practices into daily workflows and fostering collaboration.
  • Assist in the ongoing management and maintenance of the CMS by ensuring accurate data entry, tracking updates, and generating reports. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure the Compliance Management System (CMS) reflects current compliance practices and supports the department’s operational needs.
  • Perform monthly reviews of compliance resources to identify new and pending regulations. Enter relevant updates into the CMS for tracking and ensure they are categorized accurately. Collaborate with the Compliance Officer by providing a complete record of regulatory changes requiring review and analysis.
  • Assist in the development and execution of the annual compliance-testing schedule. Perform detailed testing in assigned areas of the Credit Union and document findings.
  • Assist the Compliance Officer in preparing for and participating in Compliance Committee meetings as needed.
  • Actively engage in mentorship and feedback sessions with the Compliance Officer to enhance knowledge and skills in compliance-related functions. Support the Compliance Officer in tracking data for compliance program metrics.
  • Assist the Compliance Officer by compiling data and generating reports for monthly compliance updates. Ensure that all the information provided is accurate and well organized.
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the Vendor Management Program by assisting with preliminary due diligence reviews, gathering necessary documentation, and maintaining vendor records within the vendor management software. Provide ongoing support to vendor owners to ensure timely completion of due diligence and compliance with established processes.
  • Assist in evaluating the compliance impacts of organizational projects, including product and service enhancements. Provide operational support by ensuring proper documentation
  • Conduct thorough reviews of marketing materials to ensure compliance.
  •  Assist the Compliance Officer as needed in the policy governance process. Review policies scheduled each month to gain familiarity and provide insights or feedback on compliance related issues.
  • Assist the Compliance department with its record retention responsibilities to maintain the Credit Union's documents and records as required by management & regulations.
  • Serve as the primary reviewer for Power of Attorney (POA) documents, determining initial approval or identifying issues for further review. Refer complex or unclear cases to the Compliance Officer for additional guidance. Maintain records of reviewed documents.
  • Provide support to key business function owners in the development, management, and testing of recovery processes per the Business Continuity plan to ensure readiness to recover from events or incidents affecting or likely to affect operations.
  • Possess effective knowledge of the credit union's products and services.
  • Perform other job & department related duties as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

Performance measurements are based on DNCU's Core and Leadership Competencies and on goals set by the employee's immediate supervisor to better serve the credit union's needs.


Knowledge and Skills:


Experience:

Two years to four years of similar or related experience.


Education:

(1) A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.


Interpersonal Skills: 

A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is usually of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating, influencing or training others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.

Physical Requirements: 

May require sitting or standing for extended periods of time.


Work Environment: 

Involves travel to DNCU offices and may require working non-traditional work hours in support of business needs.
