Job Summary and Qualifications

Duties include inventory control (all POC supplies, Q.C. materials, PT materials and instrumentation; as well as some storage and dispersal of said items to testing units. All new shipments / lots to be validated prior to release to the testing units); nursing training / validation, proficiency testing activities, monthly reporting to departments, annual user validation reporting, committee reporting functions as needed and evaluation of new instrumentation and / or reagent systems.

Responsible for identifying, analyzing, and quantifying the systems, and operational data processing needs / activities of all departments as they specifically relate to the Laboratory. Collaborates with all departments in achievement of patient care and enterprise systems objectives.

Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.

Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and

procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the

laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.

Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results

and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Supervisor, Laboratory Manager or Director.

Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

Job Qualifications

Experience

2 years experience in a laboratory performing high complexity testing

Education

A Bachelors Degree or higher level of education with education from an accredited program in Medical Laboratory Sciences. A high degree of knowledge / experience in medical laboratory technology and laboratory accrediting agency standards is required. Two years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing. Full knowledge of the medical laboratory area is required.

Preferred certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) from an equivalent accrediting agency. Bachelors degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory science from an accredited university preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Current BLS certification required if scheduled to work at offsite FSED
