What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cybersecurity Technician position at Del Valle Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Monitor network traffic and alerts to identify potential threats. Support network security analysis, threat hunting, monitoring and incident response. Maintenance and configuration of network security tools. Utilize technologies to detect, analyse, and limit intrusions and security events. Remain updated on current threats by participating in continuing education including but not limited to the TEA Information Security monthly meetings. Provides advice to the Director of Network Services regarding current, evolving or emerging issues as related to networks and information security.
Minimum Qualifications
Three years’ experience with network engineering and security management preferred
Experience in providing cybersecurity and risk metrics for reporting preferred
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, equivalent cybersecurity experience, or industry-standard cybersecurity certifications.

Maintain relevant security leadership certification(s) (i.e., CISSP, CISM, Security ) or obtain within six (6) months of employment.
Knowledge/Skills
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to information security, privacy, and computer crimes
- Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computer systems and technology
- Knowledge of operating systems, internet technologies, databases, and security infrastructure
- Knowledge of information security controls, procedures, and regulations
- Knowledge of concepts and techniques for enterprise risk management, audits, and risk assessments
- Knowledge of incident response program, practices and procedures
- Skill in quickly resolving security issues in diverse environments
- Strong troubleshooting and electro/mechanical aptitude
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties

- Monitor and protect district data from current and emerging internal and external security threats.
- Implement the district’s cybersecurity framework.
- Implement related policies and procedures to ensure service is continuous when a change program is introduced, a security breach occurs, or the disaster recovery plan needs to be triggered.
- Develop and carry out information security plans and policies.
- Monitor network traffic and alerts to identify potential threats.
- Monitor security access and identify suspicious activity.
- Respond to basic security incidents and alerts.
- Assist with the maintenance of security tools and software.
- Develop strategies to respond to and recover from a security breach.
- Document security incidents and assess their impact.
- Participate in security investigations.
- Engage in continuous education to stay updated on the latest threats and defense mechanisms.
- Coordinate with Network Services staff to implement security best practices
- Create and maintain documentation for security procedures and protocols
- Provide awareness training for district employees on information security standards, policies and best practices.
- Ensure accomplishment of all objectives per District policies, procedures, and strategic direction, as well as regulatory standards governing the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
