Role and Responsibilities

The Senior Cloud Database Administrator (Sr. DBA) designs, builds, implements, monitors, and manages the enterprise cloud database infrastructure for the Auto Clerk Team. Additionally, they build these solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IAC) practices which create / incorporate / leverage automation as much as is feasible or possible.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Infrastructure as Code, AWS Cloud technologies, database administration and management, and a strong ability to optimize database performance and security in a Cloud environment.

The incumbent will lead and contribute to business projects, infrastructure strategy and design, capacity management, and support activities.

Essential Job Results

Design

Accountable for the creation and upkeep of cloud database infrastructure design documentation.
Accountable for the creation and upkeep of cloud database models design documentation.
Accountable for verifying that cloud database models meet appropriate compliance / governance requirements.
Accountable to design Cloud-based database solutions ensuring business continuity, high-availability, and scalability.
Expected to collaborate with Architects, Developers, Platform Administrators, Cyber Security, and / or other Product teams as required, to define cloud database requirements and architecture for various initiatives.

Automation

Design, manage, and / or maintain tools to automate operational processes to ensure that manual executions are kept to a minimum.

Deployment

Expected to plan and execute database migrations, upgrades, and patches while minimizing downtime and ensuring data integrity.

Operations and Security

Monitor and optimize the performance of cloud databases, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and ensuring optimal query performance.

Implement and maintain database security best practices, including user access control, data encryption, and vulnerability assessments.

Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing preventative measures.

Develop and maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.

Ensure data backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies are in place and regularly tested.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering related field or equivalent work experience.

Education

Certifications

AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification is Required.

AWS Certified Associate Architect or AWS Certified Database – Specialty is highly weighted but not required. Proven work experience in these areas is sufficient.

Skills

Must possess (5 ) years of hands-on Database Administration experience, with Aurora RDS being a requirement. Must possess AWS Certification or equivalent hands-on experience in managing and monitoring production workloads in AWS.

Proven experience as a Database Administrator, with a focus on Cloud Database Engines.

Strong expertise with AWS and proficiency in Cloud Database services.

Solid knowledge of database management systems –Aurora MySQL and Postgres required.

Strong experience with database design, performance tuning, and query optimization.

Strong understanding of database security best practices and data privacy regulations.

Hands-on expertise with scripting languages. Required languages include SQL, Python, and Terraform for automation of infrastructure as code and monitoring.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

AWS Data Migration Service, Hashicorp Vault, Redshift, DataDog, Splunk
