As integral members of the Horticulture team, Seasonal Gardeners are responsible for assisting and supporting full-time Horticulture and Facilities staff with the installation and care of the gardens and living plant collections, both outdoors and in our hoop houses. Individuals in this position should have a keen interest in horticulture and gardening, a general understanding of horticultural practices, and the skills necessary to perform basic horticultural tasks.
Seasonal Gardener responsibilities include weed control in meadow and woodland edge gardens and keeping green spaces and walkways clear of debris and hazards. The ideal candidate will understand how to use and care for gardening tools and equipment, including trimmers, and hand tools following health and safety regulations at all times.
Support and on-the-job training will be provided by our Director of Horticulture and you will be assigned tasks by our full-time site garden staff and at times work with our volunteers. Hours and days are to be confirmed.

Responsibilities:
- Carry out seasonal garden maintenance as requested
- Identify and hand weed persistent weeds and remove self-sown unwanted plants
- Apply mulch and pine straw to border areas as required
- Plant and divide perennials for propagation as instructed
- Water, feed, and care for stock plants, containers, and growing stock
- Monitor and maintain the health of plants, feed, weed, and pest control
- Leaf blowing, Mowing, Pruning, Trash Removal, Cleaning Benches and trashcans
- Maintain hand tools and equipment and keep storage areas and machinery in good order
Requirements:
- Experience as a Gardener or similar trade
- Able to work in all weather, rain, wind, and heat
- The ability to lift heavy objects (50 Lbs)
- The ability to remain on your feet for long periods
- A love of the outdoors, nature, and plant life
- A high school degree or GED
- Able to interact with the public by answering questions, providing directions, etc.
- Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
Job Type: Temporary
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
Work Location: In person
