Title: SSVF Outreach Specialist Job
Purpose/Description:
This position covers Kent & Sussex Counties
Provides basic SSVF program information for all incoming inquiries about the SSVF program; documents the nature of requests and refers to appropriate staff. Maintain complete and accurate records of Outreach contacts made and services provided. Initial screening of potential Veterans encountered during outreach in the community and events. Immediate to next day reporting of information received from Veterans encountered. Responsible for the overall productivity and success of the DCHV SSVF Program and Performs all other duties as assigned by Program Director.
The Outreach Specialist will assist clients in breaking the cycle of homelessness by moving from the street to housing, accessing necessary social services, and linking individuals to mainstream resources.
- The SSVF Outreach Specialist is instrumental in supporting the work of all SSVF Staff and the DCHV SSVF Grant to prevent homelessness and obtain permanent housing for very low-income homeless Veterans and Veterans’ families.
- The Outreach Specialist plays a critical role with respect to entering SSVF demographic information into CMIS. Provides support to the VA Liaison.
- Develop and provide community outreach presentations for Veterans and Non-Veterans. Assess needs of Veterans and their families and refer to other VA and community partners aiding with all issues facing the homeless Veterans’ community to include but not limited to:
*Short and long-term housing,
*Employment,
*VA benefits,
*Mental health support,
*Substance use disorder and
*Legal issues.
- Attend community meetings regarding homeless and veteran populations. Performs outreach and supportive services to Veterans in SSVF emergency hotels
Qualifications
· Basic understanding of the homeless Veterans’ population and related challenges.
· Basic understanding of the military and/or the VAMC and SSVF – eligibility.
· Minimum of 1 – 3 years in human services, Outreach, Social Work or related field preferred - Prior experience working with homeless Veterans’ population.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Ability to work in and promote teamwork.
· Ability to work professionally, cohesively, and collaboratively with staff, community partners and with organizations serving the homeless Veterans’ community
· Ability to work flexible and sometimes unpredictable hours to include weekends.
· Organized, detail-oriented and able to provide professional and detailed documentation and successful time manage.
· Reliable transportation.
· Fluently read, write, and communicate in English.
· Ability to work independently with little supervision, and within a diverse Veterans’ population.
· Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screen.
· Ability to perform all aspects of the job description both mentally and physically, as well as other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
