What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director for Student Services position at Delaware County Intermediate Unit?
The Assistant Director for Student Services assists the Assistant to the Executive Director for Student Services in the day-to-day administration of Intermediate Unit programs in the Student Services Department. This position is expected to support the Assistant to the Executive Director for Student Services provided leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive system of Student Auxiliary and Specialized services and program, Special Education, Nonpublic school services, Pupil Services, and Early Childhood Education, and other niche services to ensure DCIU is on the cutting edge of programming. Key to this position is strengthening current programs and demonstrate entrepreneurialism as Intermediate Units are a service organization and must evolve based on the needs of our stakeholders.
Essential Functions
- Assist the Assistant to the Executive Director for Student Services in the administration and leadership for Intermediate Unit programs in the Student Services Department.
- Oversight of fiscal and personnel operations.
- Establish positive working relationship with local district directors of special education and pupil services, principals, central office administration, and local stakeholders.
- Assists local school districts, charter schools, and other stakeholders.
- Assists in leading, monitoring, and evaluating program effectiveness of department-wide programs and services for the purpose of providing feedback to administrators and others in order to recommend program changes as needed.
- Assists the Assistant to the Executive Director for Student Services in with human resource management tasks (e.g. selection; assignment; evaluation; conducts in-service programs as requested) for the purpose of supervising pupil services and special education personnel, related service personnel, and specialties.
- Direct, supervise, and evaluate the efforts of the administration (Supervisors, Principals, and Coordinators) of each program/service of oversight.
- Provide leadership (and keep informed) regarding state and federal regulations, memoranda, and legislation relative to education.
- Assist in building internal and external partnerships to support the efforts of DCIU programs and initiatives and develop positive relationships through outstanding customer service.
- Act as an entrepreneurial leader for the organization by developing and implementing new services and programs and revising services and programs within Student Services.
- Maintain the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Advise and support the Assistant to the Executive Director with strategic planning, short and long range planning of program and services, introduction of new programs, strategies, and regulatory mandates.
- Assists the Assistant to the Executive Director for Student Services to foster a success- oriented, accountable environment within the DCIU.
- Provide leadership, design ideas, and action plans for implementation of strategic priorities, continuous improvement process, and innovation.
- Propose and lead development of grant proposals to Foundations and other organizations to secure funding.
- Assist with implementation of all collective bargaining agreements for the purpose of ensuring current contracts are administered correctly.
- Establishes and maintains an efficient records system for programs in order to provide accurate information (e.g. staffing patterns, program usage, facilities use and scheduling) for the purpose of have information available in order to plan and schedule programs and provide requested information.
- Assists in leading curriculum development and instructional practice of programs for the purpose of ensuring effective academic, social/emotional, and career development.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Other Functions
Participates in, chair and oversee required activities of district meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Education Required: Master's Degree.
Certification Required: Special Education Supervisor Certification
Experience Required: Minimum of 6 to 8 years of progressive educational administrative experience; Experience in Education, including Pupil Services and Curriculum and Instruction, Expertise with oversight of administration and staff, responsibility of large scale budgets, frequent interfaces with Customers/Stakeholders.
