About the Role
The Service Coordinator will play a critical role in serving as the LEA representative for DCIU Early Intervention programs and services. This position requires a strong understanding of special education principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resources to deliver relevant and appropriate services to students.
- Written Materials: Facilitate and participate in the development of written materials, such as evaluation reports and individual education programs, to ensure compliance with established timelines.
- Professional Development: Maintain current knowledge of early childhood education best practices, special education methodologies, evaluation instruments, and assessment techniques to apply to early intervention services.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date on state and federal special education regulations, including accessing basic education circulars and OCDEL announcements, to ensure compliance.
- Caseload Management: Manage a student caseload to ensure all services on the IEP are delivered within timelines.
- Problem-Solving: Respond to inquiries from various sources, resolving issues, providing information, and/or direction.
- Support Services: Support classroom teachers, families, and staff members in the ER/IEP process.
- Disability Awareness: Understand services for various disabilities, placement options, and children in the transition process to ensure student access to IEP services.
- Family Support: Advise parents and/or legal guardians to help families access community educational resources and medical assistance.
- Relationship Building: Establish and maintain working relationships with teachers, therapists, and agencies to meet the needs of eligible preschoolers.
- Meetings and Data Collection: Participate in various meetings to convey and/or gather information required to perform functions and participate in data collection for ACCESS reimbursement.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
