What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intake/Diversion Officer position at Delaware, County of (OH)?
The Delaware County Juvenile Court is seeking to hire a full-time Intake/Diversion Officer. Incumbent will be responsible for assessing youth, managing crisis, making recommendations, ensuring compliance with court-ordered terms, and providing case management, supervision, and support, using evidence-based techniques, for juveniles and families involved in the juvenile justice system.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Psychology, Education or a related field is required. Relevant professional experience working with at-risk is preferred;
- Ability to effectively plan independently and in collaboration with other staff, departments, and outside agencies;
- Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions using judgment and analytical skills;
- Knowledge of evidence-based cognitive-behavioral change techniques, motivational interviewing, and verbal de-escalation methods;
- Ability to learn Court structure and processes;
- Thorough knowledge of crisis management and intervention skills;
- Thorough knowledge of risk assessment tools/methodology;
- Thorough knowledge of the Juvenile Justice System and the Ohio Revised Code; and
- Must have a clean criminal record and valid Ohio Driver’s License.
- Attends court hearings and provides consultation, information and/ or prepares, and presents recommendations;
- Conducts assessments and collects collateral information including gathering school, mental health and other agency information to form a summary and risk assessment from which recommendations are made;
- Maintains client files including selected hold open, adjudicated, waiver, diversion and OVI cases;
- Administers drug and alcohol screenings/tests and prepares samples for the lab;
- Works with parents to establish positive parenting skills and with youth to promote positive behavior change;
- Participates in, monitors and possibly updates groups, positive activities, and programs as needed;
- Provides crisis intervention for clients by assessing their situation and directing the family to suitable solutions or providing appropriate referrals;
- Uses evidence and strength-based practices to promote positive behavior change for juveniles involved in the juvenile justice system; and
- Documents and maintains accurate and updated records using appropriate case management systems and databases.
