What are the responsibilities and job description for the Law Clerk position at Delaware, County of (OH)?
The Delaware County Juvenile/Probate Court is seeking to hire a part-time/intermittent Law Clerk for a position consisting of approximately 10-20 hours per week. This position is responsible for assisting the Judge and Magistrates in performing the functions of the Probate and Juvenile Divisions of the Common Pleas Court.
A writing sample is required for consideration for this position.
Qualifications for this position are as follows:
- Must be currently enrolled as a second or third year law student;
- Knowledge of local court rules, Rules of Evidence, Rules for Superintendence of the Courts, the Ohio Revised Code, Administrative Code, Rules of Juvenile, Civil and Criminal Procedure, Federal rules and regulations, etc;
- Ability to analyze cases law affecting cases and legal issues pending before the Court;
- Ability to evaluate cases according to the facts and applicable law;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Superior ability to perform legal research;
- Superior interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with clients and customers with widely varied levels of education and competence and individuals who may be upset, distraught, irate, emotionally or mentally or otherwise unable to function within reasonable range of constructive behaviors;
- Demonstrated integrity, reliability and the ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to operate database systems, create spreadsheets and use word processing programs; and
- Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License, have an acceptable driving record and no criminal record.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting legal research, analyzing case law, reviewing rules of procedure, and researching legal issues;
- Preparing various court documents and drafting court decisions;
- Assisting with special projects as assigned by the Judge or Magistrates.
