What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sheriff's Office Intern position at Delaware, County of (OH)?

It is the goal of the College Student Internship Program to provide a valuable learning experience to a junior or senior studying criminal justice or other law enforcement-related field. Intern will shadow, observe, participate, and take full advantage of all activities and opportunities provided. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office staff will mentor, give feedback, and provide meaningful tasks and assignments to the intern.
Completion of a secondary education or equivalent plus certification from the Ohio Peace Officers Training Council. Must be able to properly administer first aid / CPR. Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and a clean criminal record. Work consists of complex, varied, non-standardized tasks requiring application of numerous laws, rules, regulations, and procedures. Incumbent is required to quickly react to potentially threatening situations on a regular basis.- Detective Bureau assistance;
- Patrol ride-along; assist with taking incident reports, etc.
- Corrections Officer shadowing; jail programming assistance
- Court Services Division shadowing (transport, courts, etc.)
- Dispatch – shadow and observation
- School Resource Officers/Explorers programming assistance
- Other duties as assigned
Prior to completing the application, verify that you can comply with these 5 requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older and of good character.
- Must be a Delaware County resident and eligible to work in the United States.
- Must currently be enrolled as a junior or senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher at an accredited college or university, with a minimum 2.5 GPA; and must be pursuing a degree in criminal justice or a law enforcement related field.
- Must submit a copy of current GPA and proof of enrollment; a letter of recommendation from a law enforcement or related professor; and, a personal letter of reference.
- Must not have any felony arrests or convictions, no operating a motor vehicle under the influence or convictions of misdemeanor crimes within the last four (4) years.
