Objectives
Employee interfaces and takes a lead role for Delaware County Veteran Services with central Ohio social services and the Municipal Court Special Docket to assist veterans in need. Takes financial assistance applications and assists veterans and surviving spouses as required and in accordance with applicable procedures, policies, and laws. Acts as the lead for indigent burial requests. Refers veterans to other agencies for financial assistance, if required. Assists veterans as a County Veteran Service Officer (CVSO) when not actively assisting via social services programs. Individual reports to the Director.
Job Standards
- Honorably discharged veteran of the United States military.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field plus two (2) years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education or experience. Must possess a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Must meet and maintain qualifications for driving on county business as a continued condition of employment.
- Will be required to become a CVSO within one (1) year from initial hire.
- All licenses and certifications must be maintained as a continued condition of employment.
Essential Functions
- Interfaces and takes a lead role for Delaware County Veteran Services with central Ohio social services and facilitates those services to veterans;
- Lead for the office in facilitating financial assistance;
- Acts as a lead for the Municipal Court Special Docket to assist veterans in need, attends court sessions and meetings;
- Answers inquiries and prepares financial assistance applications;
- Interviews/counsels or finds training for veterans and surviving spouses regarding assistance claims;
- Works with local funeral directors to process Delaware County indigent burial claims;
- Creates and submits claims for Veteran Affairs (VA) assistance for veterans in accordance with guidelines and regulations;
- Interprets assistance rules, guidelines and State and Federal veterans laws;
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance;
- Attends Veteran Service Commission meetings and various training sessions, video conferences and workshops;
- Takes minutes for the Veteran Service Commission;
- Performs general clerical duties;
- Acts as Admin. Asst. and/or driver as needed;
- Works overtime and outside of typical work schedule/business hours as required; and
- Other duties as assigned.
