What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Inspector position at Delaware Engineering, DPC?
Delaware Engineering D.P.C. is looking to hire a reputable construction inspector with 2 years’ experience to oversee the construction of a new landfill cell in Essex County, NY (6-10 months). This project includes large earth excavations, along with installations of clay liner, geosynthetic drainage layers, HDPE liner, aggregates, HDPE piping and associated manholes/instrumentation systems.
At Delaware Engineering, Inspectors are integral team-members, continuously giving and receiving feedback between the project manager, engineer and contractor The inspector for this project will assist in identifying environmental hazards and work with the following disciplines:
Civil / Site: Large excavations. Installation of geosynthetics. Installation of HDPE liners. underground piping and associated subsurface infrastructure, aggregate roadways, and turf restorations.
Structural: Precast concrete structures with associated castings.
Mechanical: Installation of pumps and piping systems.
Electrical: Installations of high and low-voltage electrical systems and their associated components that supply power to pump equipment, along with control wiring.
The Inspector’s successful application of knowledge with construction fundamentals and safety regulations will ensure the soundness of all disciplines of construction. top-candidates will maintain unimpeachable integrity, high attention to detail, and assertiveness.
Construction Inspector Responsibilities:
- Attending site specific safety training.
- Attending pre-construction meetings where necessary.
- Attending progress meetings and assisting with the creation of an agenda for each meeting, as well as recording meeting minutes.
- Conducting and recording detailed field inspections of materials and work completed by all construction disciplines.
- Scheduling and performing field special inspections to assure compliance with specifications.
- Referring deviations and disagreements to senior engineers for clarification.
- Observe and accurately track quantities associated with all installations to ensure the accuracy of payment applications.
- Preparing punch lists and attending close-out meetings for construction projects.
- Review and understand contract documents
- Communication with contractors
- Support for as-built drawing preparation
- Conduct field work to obtain data to be used for studies and design
Construction Inspector Requirements:
- 2 years’ experience as a construction inspector or 3 years’ experience with multiple construction disciplines, preferred.
- OSHA 10-hour certification, preferred. This training can be provided by Delaware Engineering.
- Excellent verbal and written communications are essential.
- Proficient knowledge of work zone safety, required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, required.
- Available to work weekends, as required.
- Knowledge of Corfix project recording application, preferred. This application is user-friendly. Training will be provided by Delaware Engineering.
- Knowledge and certification for Troxler compaction test equipment, preferred.
- Prior relevant work experience and knowledge of earthwork and liner installation, preferred
Wage: $30-$40/hr based on experience
Paid Mileage: NYS Standard Rate
Part-Time: 6-10 months
