Delaware Eye Institute, located in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, is a multispecialty group of ophthalmologists and optometrists. We have a 29,000 square foot state of the art office complex which includes an expansive clinical wing, a full service optical shop, the Retina Center and our Outpatient Surgery Center with two operating rooms. The Surgical Technician is responsible for assisting with the implementation of quality perioperative nursing care and cooperates as a team member with other members of the perioperative system as well as those within the medical and administrative systems. Participates as a member of the perioperative nursing staff in planning, policy formation, and decision making as it relates to the operating room.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

• Assists with the safe transportation of patients to an individual Operating Suite.
• Assists with patient positioning in accordance with established standards.
• Assures patient safety / privacy.
• Consistently performs all scrub duties with efficiency and speed.
• Responsible for verifying sterility of all supplies prior to use on the surgical field.
• Responsible for creating and maintaining a sterile field.
• Responsible for all surgical counts according to Center policy in conjunction with the circulating nurse.
• Anticipates surgeon's needs for instrumentation, suture, sponges, and other supplies according to technique, procedure, and other special requirements.
• Assists with the maintenance and care of surgical specimens under the direction of the circulating nurse according to established Center policy.
• Assists in the care / maintenance of all equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Assists with maintaining and updating physician preference cards.
• Assists with case supply selection for next day's surgical schedule.
• Keeps the circulating nurse informed of case progress.
• Assists with room turnover.
• Evaluates the quality and cost-effectiveness of supplies, equipment and services within the goals of the Center.
• Serves as public relations liaison for the Center with patients, physicians and business representatives in the clinical areas.
• Participates in appropriate meetings and committees.
• Participates and supports research and improvement studies that can make meaningful contributions to the quality and economy of nursing services.
• Participates in Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Program.
• Participates in adverse incident reporting program.
• Performs daily biological testing of each autoclave.
• Maintains accurate logs of each biological test
• Accepts deliveries from outside vendors as needed.
