CONTEXT OF THE JOB :

The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press seeks a service-oriented, proactive, and collaborative individual to join our liaison team as the Business Data and Entrepreneurship Librarian. The incumbent will play a vital role in supporting the research, information literacy, and curricular needs of students and faculty within the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics and interdisciplinary entrepreneurship programs. The Business Data and Entrepreneurship Librarian contributes expertise in research data practices, business analytics, scholarly communication, and the effective use of academic resources specific to the study of business. This includes providing instruction and support for navigating and assessing business information sources, research data management best practices, and collaboration across disciplines in support of a growing number of 4 1, cross-disciplinary, and certificate programs. Given the strong focus on generative artificial intelligence within Lerner College, this position is expected to maintain a working knowledge of the application of generative AI tools to business research and teaching.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Serve as the liaison to Lerner College of Business and Economics and specifically to the following departments : Accounting and Management Information Systems, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Operations Research, and Horn Entrepreneurship.
  • Develop and sustain effective working relationships with faculty, students, administrators, and community partners (e.g. Bureau of Economic Analysis, small business development center, local small businesses, and non-profit organizations).
  • Build collections that meet the research and curricular needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in collaboration with the Collection Access and Resource Management Department.
  • Provide instruction / information literacy services, including one-on-one and small-group research consultations.
  • Develop content for assigned subject areas, including course guides, subject guides, learning objects to support student use of complex business databases and other instructional and outreach materials.
  • Provide library support for aspects of scholarly communication, including basic copyright and publishing guidance and related scholarly services applicable to the needs of the departments named above.
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging research that is responsive to the curriculum of assigned degree programs, supports research in UD centers, institutes, and clinics, and which advances research, teaching, and learning in assigned subject areas and departments, as well as internally for Library, Museum and Press staff.
  • Promote access, discovery, and use of Library, Museums, and Press collections.
  • Serve on the Research Data Steering Group, and provide outreach and consultations related to research data stemming from that committee as well as from assigned departments.

Actively engage in professional development and other scholarly activities.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master’s degree in library science and undergraduate degree in business, economics, or a business-related discipline; OR advanced degree in a business discipline with relevant work experience in an academic, research, or corporate library; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal communication, and public presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of information sources and research processes used in business.
  • Knowledge of current developments in scholarship and teaching in business and economics.
  • Strong commitment to service excellence, with a focus on proactive outreach and demonstrated initiative, optimism, flexibility, and follow-through.
  • Ability to embrace ambiguity in a changing environment and engage in intelligent risk-taking.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and workplace, and an ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Demonstrated understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Preferred, but not required :

  • Collection development experience in an academic or research library.
  • Familiarity with best practices for research data management and data dissemination, and / or emerging methodologies for data analysis.
  • Experience with statistical packages and assisting users with qualitative, quantitative, and geospatial data in an academic or research library.

    Appointment : Appointment commensurate with experience. Assistant Librarian, pay grade 29E; Senior Assistant Librarian, pay grade 30E; Associate Librarian, pay grade 31E; or Librarian, pay grade 32E. This position is part of the librarian career ladder governed by the University of Delaware Library Rank and Promotion System which guides professional development and advancement.
