HR BENEFITS SPECIALIST
The HR Benefits Specialist reports to the HR/Team Lead & CAO and is primarily responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefit and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long term disability, and 401(k) plan. The incumbent has the authority to perform day-to-day activities while ensuring appropriate supervisor/senior leadership stays abreast of issues.
Essential Duties of the Position
- Reviews enrollment forms for accuracy and coordinates enrollment with third-party administrator.
- Counsels with and advises employees on their eligibility for various benefits.
- Assists in the preparation of employee booklets and communications covering a variety of benefit topics.
- Responsible for the record keeping of eligible benefits.
- Administers COBRA to ensure the appropriate records are maintained and that all federal requirements are adhered to.
- Performs reconciliation and balancing on the billings for all benefits.
- Serves as liaison with employees and insurance carriers.
- Coordinates health, life and disability insurance enrollments and communicates with service providers concerning routine administration of programs.
- Ensures the accuracy of all benefit enrollments in the corporate systems to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
- Runs reports from personnel databases as requested.
- Assists employees regarding benefit claim issues and plan changes.
- Other HR related administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
1 – 3 years of related experience is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form. Ability to establish and maintain professional and effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, and external entities. Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems as well as have advanced skills in Office Suite programs such as Excel and Word. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail are essential. Must be able to meet and manage deadlines and work well under pressure. Knowledge of insurance principles a must. Bachelor’s Degree and PHR certification desired.
