Job Description:

The F-16 Program Simulator Maintenance Technician (Sim Tech) applies advanced knowledge and experience to solve complex training device problems; including those that typically are not able to be solved solely by reference to maintenance manuals or similar documents. Sim Techs are fully qualified, trained, and knowledgeable in the F-16 Program logistics support, maintenance, and operation of the training devices. F-16 Program Sim Techs document discrepancies using reporting forms as required. At this level, the Sim Tech has demonstrated the ability to solve a variety of complex training device problems. Sim Techs shall possess a DoD approved cybersecurity baseline certification commensurate to category and level of the assigned position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide device power-up and shut down, daily readiness checks, assisting/building missions and training scenarios, assisting students and instructors in operating devices during training, and supporting user-directed activities such as investigations, test and demonstrations, tours, etc.
  • Provide facility security, cleaning, and maintenance or other related services.
  • Provide support for scheduled operations, as required by Government training schedules.
  • Provide F-16 Program training device maintenance that supports the availability requirements of the Performance Work Statement.
  • Perform applicable on-equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, replacement of parts, disassembly/reassembly, calibration, testing, and operational checks to correct training device malfunctions and verify proper serviceable condition of any component, system, or subsystem of the training device and training aids.
  • Document total maintenance support on F-16 Program support equipment and components, including tests, alignments, and adjustments.
  • Provide maintenance assistance using on-site, on-call, and/or telephone assistance-type services.
  • Apply comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex problems, those not typically solved by properly interpreting maintenance manuals or similar documents
  • Assist in the design of minor hardware system modifications and software programs to stay current with aircraft configuration and to improve simulator operability.
  • Manage, calibrate, repair, or replace all of the support equipment provided as part of the RSP.
  • Maintain spares inventories through repair or replacement.
  • Responsible for identifying, purchasing, managing, maintaining, repairing, storing, and replenishing all listed parts.
  • Manage and maintain the RSP, consisting of Government-owned spares, support equipment, and technical documentation necessary to operate and maintain the training device.
  • Plan, supervise, organize, and coordinate all matters related to logistics activities.
  • Initiate and update purchase order requests, as necessary.
  • Identify specific requirements for logistics materials and services.
  • Analyze spare packages and recommend changes to improve program functionality.
  • Conduct quality control inspections and inspect maintenance work performed.
  • Maintain required documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Monitor and track the repair status of inoperative equipment and document maintenance activities utilizing the management data base system. (Documenting maintenance activities includes, but is not limited to, work order generation and updates, repair action documentation, issuing, returning, and adjusting inventory, ensuring inventory records are up to date and accurate, and other material control duties as assigned.)
  • Coordinate with appropriate TSSC staff with regard to non-standard situations.
  • Apply fundamental troubleshooting procedures in the maintenance of interfaces and peripheral equipment used with computers.
  • Interpret mechanical, electrical, and electronic schematics and drawings.
  • Conduct voice communications on phone, inter-phone, and radio circuits.
  • Provide networking and information systems support on training devices and networks.
  • Maintain good relations with customers and ensure information flows within technical organization.
  • Implement basic hardware and software modifications to existing simulators, as directed by the TSSC or Program Management.
  • Document and dispose of obsolete, unserviceable, or unrepairable parts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a civilian or military basic electronic program.
  • Three to five years’ experience as a flight simulator maintenance technician or equivalent.
  • Experience in conducting practical training in checking, repairing, and calibrating solid-state devices.

 

Qualifications and Experience


Qualifications

  • Must have good knowledge of computer networks.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use and operation of test equipment to perform pre- and post-operational test on installed equipment and to perform preventive maintenance using preventative maintenance cards and instruction books.
  • Must possess advanced skills necessary to diagnose and isolate malfunctions in electronic systems; align, adjust, and calibrate installed training devices; interpret mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic schematics and prepare simplified versions.
  • Must possess advanced skills to perform calibrations, adjustments, and tests on electronic equipment; analyze operation, verify discrepancies, isolate malfunctions, and replace defective components used in installed devices
  • Must possess and maintain advanced proficiency in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results, and the use of program listings to isolate faults and be adept in the use of test equipment, repair of micro/miniature printed circuit boards, electro/mechanical systems and electronic control loading systems and computer-generated sound systems.
  • Must be highly proficient in the use of diagnostic programs, interpretation of results and use of program listings to isolate faults.
  • Must be skilled at use and operation of test equipment, including “O” scopes, frequency counters, volt/ohm meters and range calibration set.
  • Must be able to perform routine preventive maintenance using maintenance requirement cards and instructional manuals; perform daily system readiness test, pre-operational and post-operational checkouts.
  • Must exhibit high performance and capability to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to drive a forklift, man-lift, or other support equipment as required if trained and certified to operate.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Must be able to effectively deliver oral presentations to management and customers
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to work any shift or day of the week as required.
  • Must have a DoD Personnel Security Clearance, no exceptions

Required Qualification

  • Possess a DoD approved Level II Security or equivalent cyber certification within 6 months of hire

 

Desired Qualification

  • Special Access Program (SAP)

Security Responsibilities

Compliance with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials, in any form. Shall be assigned specific responsibility for Information Security by immediate supervisor or department management. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. Technician shall execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information.

Language Skills

Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex word and technical documents/diagrams. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language professional journals, technical procedures, government specifications or industry standards. Will be required to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints. Ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers. Must be able to generate effective oral and written presentations and proposals on complex subjects.

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to calculate figures and amounts, prices, commissions, and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to produce, understand, and interpret mathematical equations and algorithms associated with simulation modeling and design.

Reasoning Ability

Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk and/or climb stairs and ladder into a simulator or airplane cockpit.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, and crawl on top or under the training device.
  • Must be able to detect odors or hear noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect problems or flaws in the functioning of simulators and its surrounding environment.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to travel domestic and international as required.

 

Work Environment

  • Will work in a typical training device shop floor environment.
  • Will be working in areas with risk of electrical shock.
  • Will at times be exposed to the following conditions: extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises.
