Overview
The Charter School of Wilmington is seeking a Secondary Special Services Coordinator for the 2025-2026 school year, who is excited to share our mission of engaging students in a world-class education that prepares them for college and beyond.
The Special Services Coordinator works closely with teachers, counselors, and parents to ensure that students with diverse learning needs have the supports essential for success in a rigorous, college-preparatory classroom environment. They are responsible for the oversight, delivery, and compliance of services for students with disabilities and the coordination of a tiered approach to supporting general education students who are experiencing challenges in the classroom. The Special Services Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting school outcomes and the strategic plan by providing academic, social and emotional support to students, families, and teachers to ensure all students receive the support and services they need to succeed and thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery of Special Education Services
- Serve as the Special Educator to provide direct services to students with IEPs
- Provide instructional services aligned with the academic demands of the classroom while meeting the unique learning needs of students
- Collect data on IEP goals and benchmarks and use data to work with students and parents to establish targets for continued growth
- Use proactive communication to establish positive, problem-solving focused relationships with families, teachers, and counselors
- Support teachers / staff in designing and implementing accommodations for students with disabilities.
- Develop IEPs that are developmentally appropriate, curriculum / standards based, strength based, and relevant to individual students
Oversight of Special Education Services
Coordination of 504 Plans
Management of a Tiered Approach to Student Support
Minimum Qualifications
Hold or be eligible for Special Education Teacher of Students with Disabilities and at least 3 years related experience. Details on certification requirements can be found here.
Preferred Qualifications
Dual certification in Secondary Math or other content area
Salary
Salary will be computed in accordance with the experience and training of the individual selected and in accordance with the salary schedules for employees of The Charter School of Wilmington. Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory for state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
Notes
A criminal background check, Delaware Child Protection Registry check, and tuberculosis test are required. The candidate must demonstrate in the interview process an understanding of diversity issues as related to student achievement and the ability to apply the principles of multicultural education.
