General Description of the Position
The Academic Advisor will provide concierge level support to an assigned population of students from the point of enrollment and / or reentry through graduation. Monitor and outreach to students based on attendance, intervene early with at-risk students and assist students through advising and satisfactory academic progress throughout their Delaware State University program. Maintain a mastery of advising and content knowledge for all university programs. A successful candidate will use strong critical-thinking skills to help a diverse population of adult learners overcome a myriad of obstacles to fulfill their educational objectives. Successful candidates enjoy working in a high energy, fast-paced environment that relies heavily on technology, demonstrate enthusiasm and initiative, and possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport. Participate in recruitment activities and student retention initiatives including attending virtual and / or onsite open house events, information sessions, webinars, and other events as requested to offer guidance to reentry students.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job :
1Manage and advise assigned students from reentry term to program completion.
2. Must possess thorough understanding of Delaware State University academic programs, services, policies, procedures, systems to effectively and accurately guide students.
3. Be highly visible and dynamic through a high volume of interactions with our adult students by phone, video conferencing, text, and email on a regular and consistent basis.
4. Accurately document, maintain, and track all student interactions, information, and progression through the Customer Relations Management system (CRM).
5. Act as a liaison for students by assisting with all administrative processes to include registration and degree planning.
6. Provide students with available tools and resources by anticipating needs through consultative conversations.
7. Provide comprehensive responses to student questions regarding credit for prior learning (CPL), transfer credit, transcripts, document tracking and other records being sent to the University.
8. Contribute to individual, team, and unit goals on a daily, weekly, monthly basis to ensure reentry student growth targets are met.
9. Maintain productivity and high-quality customer service throughout all student interactions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities :
1. Proactively develop and maintain relationships with applicants by establishing rapport and trust, educating them on Delaware State University programs and services, program requirements and preparing them for academic success.
2. Guide reentry students through the registration process by engaging in a consultative dialogue based on student needs, motivations, career and educational goals, presenting information in a professional, articulate, and confident manner resulting in enrollment and reentry success at Delaware State University.
3. Responsible for advisement and registration of an assigned population of students on their program.

Qualification Standards
1. Master's degree is required preferably in the discipline areas of Education, Counseling, and / or Management.
2. Minimum of two years of experience in academic and career advisement with college students in a college setting.
3. Demonstrated experience with the use of computers and using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook) and BANNER to create and produce written reports and data tracking.
4. Demonstrate superior customer service skills and a positive attitude towards student success and academic progression.
5. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse constituents including students, parents, career success coaches, faculty, and administrators
