General Description of the Position

The Assistant Dean of Student Success and Corporate Engagement is responsible for creating opportunities for students that will increase their level of success upon graduation from Delaware State University. The position resides within the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology (CAST) under the auspices of the Dean. The position leads, assesses, and supports the college's culture of student success, further enhancing our students' academic and professional growth. The incumbent works collaboratively with a highly effective leadership team to advance the land grant mission of the College and act as a liaison between the student and the institution. This is an administrative position responsible for providing leadership and management for the student services division in the College, as well as creating and encouraging teamwork and collaboration among divisional staff and within the university community. The Assistant Dean of Student Success and Corporate Engagement plays a pivotal role in enhancing student success, workforce development, and enrollment growth in agriculture-related programs. This dynamic leader collaborates with academic and industry partners to develop innovative strategies that prepare students for rewarding careers in agriculture while fostering corporate partnerships to support the institution's mission.

Essential Functions

The following are the functions essential to performing this job :

  • Develop and implement programs to improve student retention, persistence, and graduation rates in agriculture-related disciplines.
  • Create career readiness initiatives, including internships, mentorships, and experiential learning opportunities, tailored to agriculture workforce demands.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate industry trends into the curriculum, ensuring alignment with current and future workforce needs.
  • Establish partnerships with local, regional, and national agriculture organizations to provide students with real-world training opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with agriculture businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations to secure funding, internships, and career opportunities for students.
  • Lead initiatives to develop industry-sponsored research, scholarships, and co-curricular activities.
  • Act as a liaison between the university and corporate stakeholders to foster innovation and collaboration in agriculture education and workforce training.
  • Design and implement strategies to increase enrollment in agriculture programs, particularly among underrepresented and non-traditional student populations.
  • Collaborate with admissions, marketing, and academic departments to promote agriculture programs through targeted outreach campaigns.
  • Organize and participate in recruitment events, including career fairs, high school visits, and community engagement activities.
  • Contribute to the development of strategic goals and objectives for the college, with a focus on agriculture workforce development and student success.
  • Provide leadership in assessing and addressing barriers to student success in agriculture programs.
  • Monitor and analyze program outcomes, using data-driven approaches to enhance effectiveness and impact.
  • In conjunction with Chairs, Directors, and faculty, advise and convene the leadership of CAST to ensure vibrant, effective, and productive operations that enhance our students' academic and co-curricular activities.
  • Represent the College interests in university-level committees.
  • Identify and secure funding from corporate sources for student programming.
  • Help build and manage relationships with corporate and foundation partners of the highest strategic and financial value to the College.
  • Creating effective academic and social programs for a diverse student body
  • Collaborating with administration, instructors and other staff to support students' personal and academic success
  • Assisting in the development of school policies and procedures
  • Organizing events aimed at cultivating and soliciting strategic partnerships.
  • Assisting with communicating the college's successes to key constituents.
  • Developing metrics reporting.
  • Supporting University / College recruitment, orientation and outreach activities.
  • Actively interacting with corporations and organizations to build targeted partnerships and mobilize these resources to create employment and mentoring opportunities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, and governing boards.
  • Demonstrated leadership in campus operations and student services administration using quality improvement principles and teams.
  • A proven track record of effective program leadership in an academic environment and developing successful strategies that benefit student success.
  • Knowledge and experience in the careers of students in STEM fields and agriculture.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to conduct assessments and evaluations.
  • Ability to network, develop relationships, collaborate with industry leaders, key employers, and corporations to expand partnerships that grow career opportunities for students and ensure future success.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, perform under work-related pressure, and meet short-term deadlines, as needed.
  • Demonstrated experience working with and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and information, in written and oral format, to students, staff, professional colleagues, governing boards, and the general public in large or small group settings.
  • High emotional intelligence and sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of university students.
  • Qualification Standards

  • Education : Master's degree required; Ph.D. preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in higher education, workforce development, or corporate engagement.

  • Familiarity with agriculture-related industries and career pathways.
  • Proven track record of building partnerships with corporate and community organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in securing grants, sponsorships, or external funding.
  • Successful experience : developing corporate partnerships, directing undergraduate student programs, student advising, 10 years in the sciences and extension / outreach.
  • Strong understanding of trends and challenges in agriculture education and workforce development.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and stakeholders.
