What are the responsibilities and job description for the Graduate Student Support Coordinator position at Delaware State University?
General Description of the Position
Provides administrative support to graduate students, staff, and program directors. The incumbent will contribute significantly to the matriculation process, student retention efforts, graduate professional development, graduate commencement activities, and other initiatives and activities that contribute to providing an exceptional student experience. This position resides within the Office of Graduate Studies and Research and reports primarily to the Director of Graduate Student Support Services.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Support student academic progress (including matriculation processes, graduation audit, thesis and dissertation formation)
2. Maintain student Matriculation Information system from matriculation through graduation
3. Work closely with graduate program directors to monitor students’ performance, triage student concerns (academic and otherwise), and direct students to appropriate resources
4. Assist with the collection of data related to student success and difficulties and identify areas for improvement
5. Monitor and analyze semester course registration in order to identify enrollment patterns that may cause financial aid ineligibility, stop-out or enrollment status changes
6. Provide assistance to students and program directors regarding probation and readmission procedures after academic dismissal and stop-out
7. Assist with the coordination and implementation of professional development activities to ensure a common knowledge and understanding of student success goals
8. Assist in the coordination and execution of key graduate student events, including open houses, graduation, the Graduate Gala, 3MT (Three Minute Thesis Competition) and DSU Research Day
9. Collaborates closely with the student support areas to address student inquires
10. Communicate important deadlines and other timely information to students and program directors
11. Support the execution of all academic policies and procedures
Secondary Responsibilities
1) Support and collaborate on special projects with team members from the Office of Graduate Studies and Research
2) Other duties as assigned
Qualification Standards
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and experience in a higher education setting
Preferred Qualifications
1) Master’s degree with 1-3 years of experience in higher education
2) Knowledge of Banner Prod
