General Description of the Position
The Graphic Designer conceptualizes and develops compelling visual elements for print, multimedia, social media and web-based communications. The Graphic Designer plays a key role in representing Delaware State University aesthetically to build the overall strength and consistency of the University brand.
The Graphic Designer is responsible for the creative process of key strategic materials, including ideation, presentation, and execution, as well as the creative quality and cost efficiency of said projects. The position reports to the Sr. Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communications.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
- Serves as the creative force for the University's imaging, collaborating with colleagues on visual issues to keep to the highest standard; enforces consistent brand use across the University.
- Develops distinguished graphic design materials for a complex and changing list of populations with varying demographics.
- Continually brings out the best in the marketing and communications team by providing strong design inspiration and direction; sets the same standards and expectations in collaboration with colleagues, freelancers and vendors internally and externally to ensure exceptional portrayal of DSU as it advances its strategic goals.
- Oversees the day-to-day design project flow, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Guides and motivates others involved in creative design and marketing projects.
- Creates innovative designs, drafts, presentations or products aimed at elevating the brand and image of DSU.
- Maintains electronic files of DSU and other appropriately licensed photography and artwork.
- Ensures design quality for DSU's major and strategic communication tools.
- Assists in coordinating production and timelines.
- Drives constant improvement in DSU's creative quality and capabilities.
- Reviews key projects of the University to ensure the quality of the creative and its compliance with the brand.
