General Description of the Position
Performs research and / or statistical work as assigned. Collect career services data and prepare reports on student outcomes and placements. Assists with managing automated career services, inputting, and retrieving data from the university computing system. Schedule and provide evening office hours as needed for student appointments, workshops, and other scheduled activities. Provides career education and work readiness sessions for students and on- and off-campus employers. Creates and manages student employment records and statistics for assessment and reporting. Manages employer satisfaction initiatives and assessments. Report to work on time every work day, except as afforded by existing laws. Adhere to normal operating hours with the understanding that professional employees are expected to participate in events that may require adjusting schedules to ensure that the office is represented when needed. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job
1. Assists students with career exploration through internships, shadowing experiences, employment, volunteering and other career-related activities about the world of work
2. Assists with student resumes seeking internships and co-ops, counseling students on career choices
3. Meet with employers to develop internship and co-op opportunities for students, provide site visits
4. Assists students with occupational, educational and employment research using experiential learning techniques and automation for internships
5. Work with academic departments to ensure students receive academic credit for internships and co-ops
6. Assists with career education curriculum development and instructional techniques
7. Collect mid-term and final evaluations on interns and co-ops
8. Assists with conducting needs assessments for students, faculty and employers.
9. Refer students to other support services when necessary that are outside the scope of career service
10. Prepare internship job openings and communicate with students
11. Supervises work-study students
Individuals in this job may be assigned one or more of the following tasks on a rotating or as-needed basis
1. Performs research and / or statistical work as assigned
2. Collect career services data and prepares reports on student outcomes and placements
3. Assists with managing automated career services and student employment information systems, inputting and retrieving data from university computing system
4. Schedule and provide evening office hours as needed for student appointments, workshops and other scheduled activities
5. Assists with the function of the Student Employment Office where needed
6. Markets Student Employment Office component of Career Services to students, faculty, campus staff / administration, and community agency partners
7. Provides career education and work readiness sessions for students and on- and off-campus employers
8. Creates and manages student employment records and statistics for assessment and reporting
9. Manages employer satisfaction initiatives and assessments
10. Report to work on time every work day, except as afforded by existing laws
11. Adhere to normal operating hours with the understanding that professional employees are expected to participate in events which may require adjusting schedules to ensure that the office is represented when needed
12. Perform other duties as requested or assigned
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Good working knowledge of and experience in methods and theories of career development, career coaching, counseling, conducting and assessing skill inventories
2. Knowledge of curriculum development and classroom management
3. Knowledge in labor relations, employment and staffing
4. Ability to present information effectively in a classroom or seminar format
5. Good written and oral communication skills
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Qualification Standards
1. Education : Master's degree in an Education, Counseling, Human Resources, or other human relations field.
2. Successful experience : Minimum three (3) years experience as an internship counselor, coordinator or coach
3. Minimum two (2) years experience and proven success in interacting effectively with multicultural students at collegiate level
4. Other preferences : Experience in developing and managing special projects. Experience with innovating and managing academic and career-related programs.
