General Description of the Position
Postdoctoral or research scientist position characterizing new rodent models of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease, motor neuron disease, and related dementia in the laboratory of Michael Gitcho at Delaware State University, Delaware Center for Neuroscience Research, in the Department of Biological Sciences.
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential Functions
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. The applicant should be proficient in animal behavior, pathology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and other techniques. An applicant with experience in fMRI analysis (functional connectivity, DTI, etc) will also be considered. Fundamental scientific knowledge in Alzheimer’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and motor neuron disease is essential. The applicant should also be proficient in scientific writing, laboratory management skills, rodent management, statistics, and interpretation of scientific results. This position also involves training/mentoring both graduate and undergraduate students.

1. Set up behavior equipment, monitor and execute testing of rodents (behavior, biochemical and other laboratory skills to be determined and as describe above).
Qualification Standards
Education: PhD, MD, or MD/PhD. Experience in field of animal characterization.
