A dynamic manufacturing facility is seeking an experienced Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to lead our on-site engineering team. This senior staff role is central to driving process improvements, cost reductions, and continuous enhancement of manufacturing operations. An exceptional transitional training period is available as the current Manager remains in place until the end of May, ensuring a smooth and effective handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Management:
- Supervise 8 direct reports, with an additional 3 hourly reports managed indirectly.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization.
- Process & Product Development:
- Lead initiatives in process development, major/minor improvements, and new product development.
- Oversee machine characterization, labor standards, and quality cost functions to enhance productivity.
- Operational Excellence:
- Drive cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives to boost machine utilization and reduce quality costs.
- Technical Expertise:
- Manage operations focused on medium voltage power cable manufacturing, while also supporting production of higher and lower voltage cables, including nuclear-grade products.
- Maintain a strong focus on extrusion, wire drawing, cabling, and stranding operations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., IEEE, UL, AEIC, NEC, ASTM, 10CFR50/IE, ISO 9000).
- Customer & Corporate Relations:
- Engage directly with customers, including conducting facility tours and attending company events, emphasizing strong verbal communication skills.
- Collaborate with internal technical teams and corporate personnel to support marketing and client initiatives.
- Data Management & Reporting:
- Utilize Microsoft Suites (with Access as a plus) to develop and manage detailed reports independently—this role requires strong report writing and communication skills, with no administrative support.
- Organize experimental development, process improvement, statistical process control (SPC), and metrology activities.
- Safety & Environmental Compliance:
- Promote a safety-first culture within the manufacturing environment.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and assess process impacts on plant-level liabilities.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience:
- A 4-year technical degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; or at least five years of practical experience in medium/heavy manufacturing.
- Over 10 years in a Manufacturing Engineering role with 5–10 years of management experience.
- Technical & Industry Knowledge:
- Broad understanding of cable manufacturing, industrial specifications, and the implementation of relevant standards.
- Proven experience in manufacturing processes such as extrusion, wire drawing, cabling, and stranding.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills—both written and verbal.
- Excellent report writing and documentation abilities, with the capability to build and manage reports independently.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Microsoft Access is a plus.
- Analytical mindset with a focus on process and quality improvement.
- Systems-oriented approach with experience in distributed data management (both digital and hard copy formats).
- Safety-conscious and knowledgeable about environmental regulations in a manufacturing setting.
Additional Information
- Reporting Structure:
- The role reports directly to the Plant Manager, with regular communication with corporate stakeholders.
- Transitional Training:
- The current Manager will remain in position until the end of May, providing an excellent period for training and information handover to ensure continuity in operations.
