Overview:

Position requires a person who is strong in practical and technical skills in the field of new product and process development for all meat and poultry products. Must have the ability to integrate their technical strengths with creativity in new product development and process design. This position requires the ability to handle capital projects, such as testing of new innovative machinery and technology, to grow and shape the technical capabilities of Boar’s Head. Job Description:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Research, recommend, develop and test new technology solutions and new formulae for the full line of Boar’s Head products to achieve goals of quality enhancement, shelf-life extension, simplicity for end user, appearance, cost and sensory satisfaction.
• High responsibility for directly assigned NPD projects, from ideation, cost development, process development, data, and regulatory management through launch phase.
• Responsibility for successful product startups and maintenance of newly launched products.
• Coordinate with Operations to produce product samples.
• Schedule design reviews with Sr. R&D Manager and other departments as requested.
• Supervise and perform the daily projects as assigned by Sr. R&D Manager.
• Attend interdepartmental or cross-functional meetings as needed to discuss new/existing product and project progress/issues.
• Maintain accurate records on project files, milestone charts, design reviews, product formulations, yield data, procedures and costing analysis pertinent to one’s own projects.
• Independently work with Operations on NPD projects to streamline product development and start-up.
• Monitor sample requests for presentation and reviews.
• Ensure all department requirements, procedures, and conformance to Boar’s Head Quality Systems are met.
• Actively participate in research, justification and implementation involved in long range planning of the department and product lines.
• Work closely with vendors and suppliers to ensure Quality, Regulatory, and timeline requirements are achieved.
• Present project data and results as needed to R&D team as well as Sr Leadership which may include company ownership.
• Independently recommend efficiency and new product development projects to conform to company mission.
• Act as directed from Sr Manager to be liaison to Executive team on all new product development projects.
• Analyze and review market trends.
• Read trade publications and attend national and international trade shows and seminars to keep up with food trends and technology.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field OR equivalent experience.
• Seven (7) to Ten (10) years experience in an R&D environment.
• Computer proficient in MS Office, Oracle, and all other company-provided and used software.
• Strong communication skills, capable of articulating complex ideas clearly and concisely.
• Able to work in a refrigerated environment with appropriate protective clothing as needed
• Up to 30% of travel
