Under limited supervision, the Maintenance Technician performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures and through detailed instructions on new projects, assignments and self directed work schedules. This position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to trouble-shoot, repair, adjust, install, maintain, operate, test or otherwise service automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, or electro-pneumatic equipment in support of bottling, facility, and production operations. Utilizes skills, knowledge and technical abilities independently or as part of a team to collaborate and contribute to the continuous improvement of enterprise-wide productivity, quality, safety, industry best practices and cost-saving metrics. The Maintenance Technician provides critical support of production schedules insuring that customer delivery commitments are met.
- Collaborates with other stakeholders and third-party providers to ensure a safe working environment as it relates to tools/equipment, training, work environment, unsafe acts, identifying potential issues or other related safety items.Works cohesively with leadership, operators, administration & QC.Interacts with various vendors and contractors.
- Develops and executes preventative maintenance activities and schedules.
- Provides emergent repair and troubleshooting services to a wide range of equipment; bottling line, filtration, other winery and facility related equipment.
- Cleans, lubricates, repairs, or adjusts parts, pumps, vessels, equipment, or machinery using hand tools or specialized equipment; replaces or repairs defective parts.Calibrates hydraulic, pneumatic, power transmission, and conveyance assemblies.
- Observes, measures, or tests the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions using PLC I/O indicators, HMIs, tachometers, or other testing devices.
- Analyzes test results, machine error messages, blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, and information obtained from operators to diagnose, solve, and correct equipment problems.
- Tests electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, megohmeter, voltmeters, and ammeters.
- Operates newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.Provides training and oversite to operators when necessary.Leads setup or changesover activities according to production specifications using hand tools or other specialized equipment.
- Supports harvest and crush equipment for Black Stallion Estate Winery.
- Responsible for ordering, purchasing, and maintaining an inventory of necessary parts and tools.
- Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations. Work in accordance with general safety, OSHA, ISO, FSSC and other certification requirements as applicable.
- Services all DFV locations in the Napa area, including but not exclusively; Delicato Napa Bottling, Black Stallion Estate Winery and the Napa Offices.
- Supports and participates in Environmental Health & Safety initiatives in the facility, including but not limited to: air permitting, storm water compliance, HAZMAT, waste water compliance, roof maintenance, DOT inspections, compressed air management, fire & safety system inspections, contractor training, employee training, electrical and hot work.
- Provides general facility maintenance coordination and servicing with other departments. Coordinates internal/ external maintenance response within published guidelines.
- Provides supervisory coverage of operations at the bottling facility when required.
- Monitors and logs performance of boilers, compressors, pressure vessels, tanks, or vats.
- Moves, aligns, or adjusts machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, and hand tools.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Trains others regarding essential or non-essential duties
- Recommends schedules, sequences, or assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
- Researches and recommends products and procedures.
- Performs wine tank entry according to confined space permit procedures. Supports general line duties as-needed.
Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma/GED. AA/AS degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus.
Completion of a craft apprenticeship, or at least five years of education and production maintenance experience; Winery experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their; designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid and material dynamics, as well as mechanical principles.
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong and the capability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
- Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications, programming, and PLC ladder logic.
- Expected to utilize and input data in several types of software platforms including Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).Utilizes MP2 system to retrieve and generate work orders; enters labor, parts usage, and comments of repairs made.Records machinery, maintenance, downtime, facilities repairs, through the (MP2), preventative maintenance system.
- Interprets technical documents (prints, manuals) as required.
- Operate vehicles, mechanized devices, or equipment such as forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, or passenger vehicles.
- Operate metalworking machines and welders to fabricate housings, jigs, fittings, or fixture.
- Computer technology - Knowledge of analytical, scientific, spreadsheet, word processing, facilities maintenance, and e-mail software.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of bottling equipment with a understanding of planning and scheduling fundamentals.
- Shift work required year-round and mandatory overtime during the crush (harvest) season that may include weekends. May be called to assist during off hours if available.
Certificates and Licenses
- Valid Drivers license.
- Related vocational, trade-school or ROP program completion beneficial.
- RETA Training and/or Certified a plus.
- Welding Certifications a plus.
Constant exposure to the elements and temperature variation working both indoors and outdoors and at heights up to 45 feet. Some work areas require ear and eye protection. Exposure to standard maintenance material including batteries, lubricating fluids, paints, solvents, etc.

It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Actual placement within range will be contingent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, internal equity and alignment with market data.
