Summary:
The Corrugator Quality Control Inspector is primarily responsible for performing quality inspection of board to ensure optimal production efficiencies and quality specifications are met in alignment with our internal and external customer’s expectations. This position will also be responsible for the duties of stacking and unitizing corrugated board. Training the Corrugator Stackers and Operators on how to check for quality and improve quality is a daily expectation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Corrugator Quality Control
- Responsible for completing product quality checks. Inspects product dimensions, caliper, score location/functionality, chop quality, slit quality, correct liner, glue bond, print quality, delamination, paper splice, warp, and functionality for conformance to product specifications. Communicates quality non- conformance issues to Corrugator Lead and wet-end operators. Completes PQV form.
- Assisting the operator in keeping the corrugator running; including properly directing the combined webs to the appropriate top or bottom knife, positioning the scrap tubes to remove side trim, and communicating quality and operating information to wet end operators.
- Continually monitoring the quality of the combined board, and removing warp, splices, loose liners, out-of- line, fractured flute tips and other imperfections from the good stock. Coordinates dispositioning non- conforming product with Corrugator Lead. Tag and remove non-conforming product dispositioned as scrap to designated staging area.
- Reviews production schedule confirming Factory Work Orders and sequential interface order lineup to determine stacking pattern, load tag, dunnage and quality specifications.
- Activates and deactivates conveyor, platform trim shoot and bander Load strap coil as necessary.
- Program stacker machine control settings including back stop and stack count to accommodate the size of board.
- Placing the proper load identification tags and dunnage on the corresponding units and verifying that the load identification tags present the sheet dimensions with the width (corrugation direction) first and the length (cut off) dimension second.
- Enters finished goods orders into Enterprise System including stack height, quality, units per bundle/stack.
- Work with Corrugator Cell Leader and Leads on improvements and recommendations for optimizing setup, production, quality, and safety goals. Communicate scheduling, production, quality, safety or maintenance issues with internal staff if applicable.
- Back up other Corrugated positions as needed.
- Coordinate and assist with unjamming machine.
- Oversee and perform basic preventative maintenance
- Oversee and perform daily housekeeping
- Complying with all health/safety rules and regulations.
- Operate the Shredder as needed, likely on a rotating schedule.

Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalency required, Bachelor’s degree in related field
- Experience in the Corrugated Box Industry strongly
- Experience managing quality in a manufacturing setting
- Knowledge of paper grade, flute styles, medium types, laminating process, corrugated production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods strongly preferred.
Skills/Abilities for Corrugator Quality Control:
- Ability to actively clear bad sheets from moving conveyor.
- Ability to remain on feet for long periods of time.
