SUMMARY
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating variety of metalworking machines to shape castings and forgings or products by removing excess material by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Computes amounts of time required for operations, based on production schedules.
Inspects and measures metal products to verify conformance to company standards.
Directs workers in inspection and quarantine of products that fail to meet standards.
Studies production schedules and estimates individual worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders for workers, and assigns duties.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
Maintains time and production records and enters scrap tag attributes in the computer system.
Audits and enforces partner audits on their line.
Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
Sets up fixtures and coordinates repairs with engineering for fixtures that need repair.
Performs activities of workers supervised.
Work with Production Manager and Production Scheduler to keep up to date with current schedules jobs running.
Schedules personnel in their department and passes information to all three shift as any problems or quality concerns.
Completes supervisors section of control plans and set-up documentation in a timely manner and keeps any revisions current and up to date.
Keeps Maintenance Supervisor informed of any machine problems by way of the maintenance request log book or verbally.
Fill out gages request log book on jobs to be set-up within the next 24 hours.
Also tooling request section in the log book , to allow second shift tool room attendant to set-up tooling 24 hours prior to job set-up.
Complete supervisor section of the employee evaluations on all personnel on their line and review employee evaluation with the day shift personnel on their line.
Fill out tooling requisitions to the tool room attendant to keep tool room stocked with required tooling for their line.
Helps prints out bar code stickers and tub travelers to label material correctly and accurately.
Signs off on all tub traveled to verify the material is complete and ready to move to inventory.
Maintain machine or area log books at machines and enforce operators to fill out if machines are ran on their shift.
Maintains chain of command, all day-to-day problems or concerns on your line must be routed thru Area Supervisor then to the Area Managers by the Area Supervisor only. This is set to cut down on the amount of traffic in the offices and to allow Managers to do their jobs.
Responsible for maintaining production runs on machines and processes.
Continuous improvement of processes to reduce scrap and optimize productivity
Control of programs and documentation for all jobs.
Schedule operators each day in a timely fashion so they can start work at beginning of shift.
Work closely with Quality to be proactive for any quality issues and react right away to any that may arise.
Spend time on the floor working with operators and training them to help their quality as well as their production. Be a presence.
Continue to support the use of statistical process control on the floor.
Continue to support 6 Sigma projects.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises up to 24 employees in their manufacturing area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; and suggesting discipline for employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Maintaining good housekeeping in their own work area and enforcing good housekeeping in the department they supervise.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
High School diploma.
Six months to one year related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have completed geo metric tolerance class.
Must be able to interpret and incorporate Spc data to help maintain process capability at the machine.
Must have instant visual recognition of all types of inserts and tooling used in their area.
Must have knowledge and the ability to use all types of gauging used in their work area.
Must have an adequate knowledge of the most common "1E" Specifications.
Must be able to read and interpret most geometric dimensions and tolerances on blue prints.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must be able to set-up and operate all machines under their supervision. Must be able to write and edit all programs used in this department.
Must be able to perform 1E-4060 on all products produced under their supervision.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
