What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Nursing Services position at Delmarva Community Services, Inc?
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Nursing will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Nursing Supports Department of the agency. The major areas of responsibility include; but may not be limited to overseeing the safety, health and well-being of the individuals we support as well as to promote and maintain a delegation nursing model.
Essential Functions: · Responsible for nursing duties such as medication administration and other health-care functions supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In addition, the DON's role is to assess delegated direct support staff to make sure that they perform assigned duties in a competent and safe manner and to supervise them as they perform assigned health-care tasks. ·
Maintain a good relationship with the staff in order to facilitate communication back and forth as needed with the staff and their supervisors.
Provides DDA required 45-day nursing assessments per the State regulations and provide assessments when individuals are ill or injured.
The DON will ensure that all required documentation will be completed in a timely manner.
The Director of Nursing is expected to participate in periodic nursing meetings and other pertinent agency meetings. They are responsible for consulting with other members of management if they have questions or need feedback, and to keep their colleagues informed of current issues.
Supervises the work of the Med Tech DSP staff members to follow the regulations in administering medications according to the nursing guidelines
The DON will work as part of the management team with other nurses, coordinators, directors and other staff. They are encouraged to be a part of the agency as a whole, not just the nursing department. Frequently nursing will have an impact on other departments, and all aspects of the agency need to be considered.
Excellent communication skills and flexibility are essential.
Qualifications: Education: · Registered Nurse may possess an associate’s degree or BNS in Nursing, certified from a hospital-based program registered in the State of Maryland.
Experience in Psychiatry and/or with developmental disabilities desirable. CPR/ First Aid Certified License and Certification: · An active State of Maryland licensed RN with a Experience in Nursing, meeting all current requirements for licensure by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Maryland DDA Experience preferred.
